Just after 7pm out, and 9pm back, exact times are on real Time trains. I doubt you will get access to dalmeny or north queensferry platforms, but there is a car park with a view of the bridge at north queens ferry, which is likely to be busy. Quieter spots with decent access and a good view will be dalgety bay out and rosyth back

Thanks. The timings didn't work for me so I didn't manage to see it. I did have an enjoyable day in S Queensferry though and the bridge was looking magnificent in the sun.

Some people just don't learn...

No. The idiots don't learn 4 people were arrested yesterday for trespassing on the line between Dalmeny and South Gyle.

BBC fail today - just watching news on BBC World (I'm gricing abroad) and the item on Flying Scotsman was illustrated with Boness and Kinneil Rly 0-6-0 black saddle tank 68007!!!! Bit of a difference

Rob

Indeed, and when will the BBC (and everyone else it seems) learn the difference between 'Flying Scotsman'; the loco, and 'The Flying Scotsman' - the train?

Is this photo purporting to show trespassers? They look to be on a platform end as far as I can tell from the cropped view.

Use railway herald to see when the Scotsman is running, and you can use realtimetrains for real time location info.

Doubt it will be on RTT
Will probably be hidden
Might be on freightlocate though some stuff pops up on there without being on RTT - however as of today not on either. If it does go on, it will most likely be on around Friday

For its visit to Scotland, times were posted on RTT the day of the tour. So check first thing Saturday morning. Do an advanced search for services from the first station on the route and operated by West Coast Railway Company. Step through the hours and you should see a pair of services – one for the train arriving from the depot, and the other for the tour departure. That way you will know when it arrives, how long it will be there, and when it leaves (as well as platform info).

I am in the same situation!

It will be my son's 5th Birthday on Wed 25th and he is train obsessed, especially the Flying Scotsman. I would love for him to see the train in action. We have bought him the Hornby version as one of his birthday presents.

Are there any bridges we could stand on and will all train stations on the route be closed?? Where can I find a list of train stations on the route if they're not?

I have looked at the Realtime website but can't find any information. I'm probably missing something.

I (and the OP) would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Mummy to a Train Fanatic!!

For Thursday's tour, the times are already on RTT for the diesel hauled leg (including a light loco back to Southall depot which must be the loco that will bring in the ECS, although strangely, there's no path for the ECS move!), but nothing for the leg hauled by Flying Scotsman from York to London. The times for the trip to Scotland and back were online several days before (I think it was Wednesday or Thursday they appeared for both Saturday's and today's legs, but Sunday's went on the day before), but last Tuesday, they only appeared as the train departed. I was able to see the times as I headed up to York for the outbound leg (as it had already departed London by then) and from around 4ish (probably slightly before as it left at 15:45) for the return leg.

I believe she is leaving York at 16:35 on Thursday so I'm predicting she'll arrive at Retford (for a water stop if I'm lucky) at between half 5 and 6.

A Class 47 hauled it into York today. Think it was 47580 but not confirmed.

A couple of rumors on Twitter that Flying Scotsman has suffered a mechanical failure so will not be hauling The Cathedrals Express back to London (was due to depart York at 16:35).

Very disappointing news if true. I was hoping to see her at Retford at 17:24. Can anyone confirm this to be true?

How minor or major are fixes for injectors? Do they have to disassemble much to get to them?

I hope she gets fixed quickly as she's got a busy few weeks of railtours ahead. She should be hauling a tour from London Paddington to Southampton via Salisbury on Saturday and also has a tour on Wednesday and a week on Saturday.

There will be a lot of disappointed passengers today but of course things things happen, and even new trains can break down. It's quite annoying actually to see people getting angry when they only get £30 back and they've paid £500 or whatever. While I understand why they're annoyed, they fail to realise that the carriages and diesel loco still has to be hired, track access charges paid, catering will still be provided etc, and Steam Dreams are only a small company compared to a TOC so can't afford to give everyone a full refund everytime a steam loco breaks down.

Fingers crossed she'll be heading south tomorrow. I'll be keeping a close eye on Realtime Trains

The injectors push water into the boiler. They are not large items and are easily accessed because faults can occur. But they are critical, of course, to the continued progress of the loco - if the boiler starts to run dry, the fire has to be 'dropped' to prevent damage to the firebox in particular. But they are susceptible to a number of things - dirt and scale on the cones (latter not very likely, I should think!), air leaks in the water supply, obstruction to the water flow from the tender and other things inside the actual injector.

Unfortunately the realtime website is no longer showing times for the Flying Scotsman due to the risk of trespass, thanks to the idiots on its inaugural run.

Assuming the Injectors get fixed, the tour page says it should be leaving Paddington at 08:37am, any idea when it would pass Maidenhad? ( I am guessing circa 9:20am? )

It is confirmed that the injectors have been repaired.
It is likely tours tomorrow will go ahead providing there are no more faults.

It could be said that especially new trains can break down!
