I travelled on the 19.11 XC service from Leeds to Bristol this evening (only as far as Derby) and I heard the TM announce that an additional stop would be made at Filton Abbey Wood.

I don't recall ever hearing that on an XC service before, does anyone know why it shoud be? No mention of it on RTT.

It happens occasionally when many other trains get cancelled. A few months ago a Cross Country train stopped at St Denys.

I heard the station announcement mention Filton Abbey Wood although I was over on platform 11. First thing I thought of was the Severn Tunnel work, then I thought of a possibility that one or two of the Westbury stoppers may have been cancelled.

Either way its nice to hear a rarity.

They do have regular booked calls (when the Severn Tunnel is open!) on the daily Manchester-Cardiff (and vice versa) trains IIRC.

There was some signalling issues this afternoon between Temple Meads and Parkway, that may have had something to do with it.

Severn Tunnel closure.

No, Gwr have planned to provide a near full service.

The reason is because of signalling problems caused by faulty cabling in Patchway Tunnel. Gwr are running a reduced service, so XC are calling all trains there.

Not exactly all, Double Voyagers and HSTs didn't call.

That's no doubt why my 18:07 Exeter SD to Torquay was 31 down.

Major signalling failure between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads since Saturday afternoon and disruption is expected to continue all day today.
Train services being thinned out which was the reason for the Special Stop, and which is not being helped by the Severn Tunnel closure. The regular Cross Country service calling at Filton Abbeywood is 1M25 0700 (SX) Cardiff Cen to Manchester Picc. It also calls at Severn Tunnel Jn and Patchway as it is used to cover the hourly xx00 slot of GWR train from Cardiff to Taunton or wherever.

The opposite working also calls there on the Bristol-Cardiff segment, or so I recall when travelling in 2012 from Macclesfield to Cardiff direct.

All cross count services calling at Filton today. no Portsmouth's starting or terminating at parkway. No BTM to Parkway shuttles. Talking by signals until its fixed. keeping me busy!

Any prospect of a fix by tomorrow? Monday morning at Bristol TM won't be pretty if not.

hoping about 3.30 this afternoon!

It appears there's cable damage in Patchway Tunnel which is under possession for 6 weeks. A track machine was parked up for along time and the exhaust pipe has melted the plastic on cables............ Apparently it's all fixed now.
