I have just looked at the times of trains ex Brussels to London in late June and discovered that the 1056 has been moved to a departure of 1008 and that the next train departs at 1252. This means that the connection from Cologne ( 0742 to 0935) is no longer going to be feasible for all but business premier customers if the 30 minutes check in rule is enforced. Would this time change have anything to do with the Amsterdam to London trains?
I regularly used this connection - 0935 arrival in Brussels and 1056 departure to London and now will have to change journey times.

Looks suspiciously like it, and according to DB it runs nonstop to London, as does the 1902 ex Midi. Presumably partly for pathing, partly for loading, and possibly to simplify the Lille issue.
You will have to go earlier on Thalys or wait for the new(ish)0943

The trains from London are according to DB 0831 and 1731, again non stop.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Antwerp and Schiphol being introduced as additional stops, albeit set-down only. For travel towards the UK passengers could then travel on domestic trains to Rotterdam or Brussels and go through security there.

Antwerp and Schiphol simply do not have space for the facilities needed for Eurostar, unlike Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

I’ve never been to to Antwerp but I plan on visiting at some point as people said the station is very grand. I thought the station is very large?

The station has a really nice facade from the side of the Koningin Astridplein, and entrance from there is also great. The platforms are placed on three levels stacked on eachother, with a huge space in the middle so you can see from the top to the bottom and vice versa. Quite a grand arrival, I must say. 4 platforms lowest level, 4 intermediate, then there's the concourse level, and 6 more platforms on the top level.

There are only four through platforms, on the -2 level. All the other platforms (1-6, 11-14) only face Brussels. The topmost platforms can be accessed from the ring line, but I don't know if they're long enough to be able to accommodate a Eurostar e320.

The platforms on the -2 level are long enough to accommodate a Eurostar, but at this level there isn't enough space to build a dedicated security check area like the one being built in Amsterdam.

You should definitely visit Antwerp though, the station is majestic and the city itself is very nice. Take a stroll along the Keyserlei and the Meir admiring the beautiful buildings, before ending up on the Groenplaats for some chips at Fritkot Max. And then moving to one of the many cafés to enjoy some fine Belgian beers :)

Top level platforms 1-3 are 365m, platforms 4-5 are 411m, platform 6 is 361m. Intermediate level platforms 11-14 are all 383m. Lowest level platforms 21-24 are all 447m.

Yes by the sounds of it it’s like one of the stations in Berlin that has platforms at different levels. I know Antwerp station featured in an action movie.

Leaving aside the practical issues, I would have thought that most people wanting Schiphol would be using long-haul, and KLM's through fares are (were?) competitive. The advantage of a through service to Antwerp is marginal when an Any Belgian Station ticket is cheap and gives more choice.

I thought Antwerpen Centraal was going to be a stop for Amsterdam-bound services only - has that changed?

(It was not going to be a stop for London-bound services because of the security and immigration requirements, passengers continuing to make their own way to Brussels as they do now).

I was wondering if Antwerp and Schiphol would be stops for the service to Brussels only (and advertised as such on the departure boards). The only requirement then would be to keep the doors locked on the cross-Channel half. With selective door opening, this wouldn't be too difficult.

As far as the cross-Channel passengers were concerned, this would be no different to stopping at a signal while en-route.

(Obviously in the event of an emergency, those doors would be opened to allow evacuation of the train.)

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Response from Eurostar re. my question to them about direct fares;

"I can confirm that the direct trains from London to Amsterdam will have specific fares and you will not be eligible to exchange your tickets to the direct service if you book indirect tickets.

Whilst I would love to be able to advise when these tickets will become available, this information is yet to be released, however, we are stating the tickets should be available in Spring 2018."

There was another test run today to Amsterdam. This was just a few minutes ago at Rotterdam Centraal:

And that's 4015/4016, so now we've seen at least 4 sets which can run to the Netherlands.

And the tracks are too frequently used to block one of them for an hour when an Eurostar train is expected.

I moved my flat from Reading to Brussels via Eurostar as I was on expenses and given a monthly ticket home. Often quite difficult to explain two large suitcases full of books, kitchenware, reading lamps etc.
A friend of mine has a house in the South of France, and he's taken over most of the DIY projects in a rather large suitcase, including pipes for the radiators and his wood burning stove, a dressing table and chair in kit form, etc! Eurostar have never batted an eyelid!

This tweet is probably of interest to some people.

Justin on eurostar - Twitter said:
3 is the magic number. The sticker on the cab of a eurostar e320 means it has the latest software to operate beyond Brussels to Amsterdam. #Trainspotting #TrainTwitter

Amsterdam isn’t the only new E320 destination in Spring, the first 374 to start calling at Ashford International is apparently scheduled to run in April.

Berlin HBF is quite different in lay-out as Antwerpen: the 2 levels cross (as is also the case at Osnabrück/DE), and in Antw. they are all parrallel. The lowest connect into the newly built tunnel under town toward the lines to NL and are thus also used by Thalys. The original station had all its platforms on the top level. Local nickname: the railway cathedral.
Several Paris stations also have tracks ate different levels-notably where a RER-link has been built to go under/into centre-town.
Not anyone alighting at S'hol will go to fly: its also now a very important interchange station for connections further into NL. PLus that S'hol/AMS also offers many airlinks and perhaps cheaper fares as are from LON (LHR/LGW etc.). THalys trains stop there and to prevent ignorant tourists from boarding toward AMS at the otherwise quite empty outer end of platform, guards will sternly register who tries to board and tell them to not do that.

Oh, and as I currently sit close to AMS-C there as indeed a €* train sitting on the tracks today. The dedicted terminal is under construction at the far outer/eastern end of platf. 15-where Thalys mostly also boards (i.e. the furthest away from main entry as possible).

I head to Amsterdam on tuesday any chance I will spot a Eurostar test train?

Great to see that Eurostar are extending to Amsterdam as I watched the whole journey from Brussels to St Pancras the other day and got to see where the old line branched off to Waterloo before 2007.

Got a couple of pictures tonight.

Never spotted any test trains.

Out of interest what’s Rotterdam like? Any different to Amsterdam not keen on all the culture in Amsterdam.

Not surprising, really, when you consider what dumps Zuid, Centraal and Noord are in Brussels!

Central bas just been refurbished and is far from being a dump. North is following suit, let's see in a few week. South I party agree, but there are good reasons.

Rotterdam doesn't really have a historic city centre as the Germans bombed it during the second world war. That doesn't mean that it's a dull city, as they completely rebuilt it when the war was over.

Take a look at https://en.rotterdam.info to see what the city has on offer.
