Hello all.

Can anyone advise of football stadiums near any of the mainline, looking to get out and around to different grounds.

Mainline between Devon and PAD and any accessible branch lines.

Any suggestions accessible from bristol temple meads really.

Thanks

Molineux is 10 minutes from Wolverhampton station, hourly service from Temple Meads. Unlikely you’ll get a ticket for the game though.

Although off route Lancaster is about 1/2 minute from the station. Sid James Park in Newcastle and St James Park in Exeter have their own stations

The Bristol ones are a right PITA by train. The starship Enterprise traveled less distance than the distance from Yeovil stations to Huish Park.. Oxford is just as bad. Wycombe is terrible as are Scunthorpe, Colchester and Stoke ( which is nightmare on foot form the station) although the worst must be Forrest GReen.

Try this website: https://blogs.ncl.ac.uk/geospatialengineering/2016/04/20/football-ground-nearest-station-mark-ii/

Nowhere near the route the OP wants, but any train/footy fans should give Gigg Lane, (Bury) a miss, nearest mainline station is about 6 miles away...however the metrolink trams do take you to the centre of town! Wonder which current league ground is furthest from a railway station?

If you come to Cardiff Ninian Park is quite near Ninian Park ( although it's moved 100 yards, resembles a lego model and has a new name ).

I've just googled it and I've found out that Station Park in Forfar is actually 14 miles away from the nearest railway station. Quite ironic really

Yeovil? It's only 3 and half miles from Pen Mill station.

Far enough after a couple of pints, a 2-0 defeat with no shots on target and an afternoon stood in the rain ;)

I have been to Forfar on the train. I excluded that one as it is some distance form the western region where the OP is based ;)

Well if the OP decides to spread his wings, it's only a short Voyager trip into the Scottish regions ;)

Maidenhead United is a few minutes walk from the station.
Swindon Town is about 15 minutes walk.
Exeter City has its own station (St James Park).

What?
The Madjeski stadium is ages away from Tilehurst!
It's close to the proposed Green Park station

Didn't Derby have it's own station, but only about half a dozen trains ever stopped there?

You can see Maidenhead's stadium from the train if you approach from the East

Don't get me started on the Ricoh Arena, which is right outside the ground - but trains aren't allowed to stop there on match days. :D

Barrow - Home of the Bluebirds!!!
I have been to quite a few certainly round London that are near railway / tube stations, Aldershot and Sutton United (West Sutton station) are right next to the station, further north so is Crewe. I use the brilliant website below for finding grounds and locations

https://www.footballgroundmap.com/

With regard to Premier League stadiums, I have found that alot of teams play some Under 23 games in their main stadium. Fairly reasonable and much smaller crowds. I saw WHU v Arsenal at the London Stadium last year - attendance 800!!!

Hope that helps

Bristol City's Ashton Gate is around a 15 minute walk from Parson Street.
Exeter's ground (St James Park) is adjacent to the railway station of the same name.

Newport County at Rodney Parade is maybe 10 minutes walk - into the town centre then across a footbridge over the river.

Don't know how I missed that one, I'm going there tomorrow but to see the rugby!
