..and a 158 today showed up on 2O70/2V90 (06:49 Worcester - Weymouth / 11:10 Weymouth - Gloucester). The only 'true' 3-car 158 in the GWR fleet too, 158798.

Rather than 165 + 166 0730 Cardiff to Portsmouth Hbr today was 2 x 165s

Oh dear - no pressure for GWR then ! Exactly what people don't want on this route which is lack of tables / somewhere safe to put refreshments. Then again at least a 4-coach Class 165 means still far more seats than a 3-coach Class 158!

There was also 2 x 150 working the 16:30 Cardiff to Portsmouth yesterday. Assuming one 150 came off at Westbury and it’d likely worked solo south.

Yikes! still 150’s on this route.
I saw one on the 07:30 Cardiff - Portsmouth at Trowbridge this morning too. Was unable to see if it was attached to anything else. Usually a unit detaches at Bristol for this service AFAIK

Stays as a 5 car Through to Pompey and back now. The 165 Detaches later at Westbury when it works the 1530 Cardiff - Pompey and the 166 continues solo

I guess 150/0 are rare on the Portsmouth route now as AFAIK they work around Exeter

165103 working 1P44 1830 Great Malvern to London Paddington - booked Turbo this evening as they don't yet seem to be able to keep 802s at Oxford overnight.

Potentially this could be the last (ever) through scheduled Turbo working from Great Malvern to London Paddington (unless repeated on the August bank holiday).

(Obviously 2W10/2E92 and 2E20/1P23 and Bristol services still bring Turbos to the North Cotswolds)

There was 1x 5 and 1x 9 80x overnight at Oxford on Saturday/Sunday. Can’t recall if they were 800s or 802s or 1 of each.

Fair enough - I was just looking for a reason why they scheduled Turbos on the North Cotswold line today - seems like it was simply because they based the service on the pre-May weekday timetable with the turbo split at Moreton-in-Marsh.

Good afternoon all, could someone tell what might appear on 1O99 Great Malvern - Barnham tommorow please? Not sure if Turbos run through to Brighton, long time since i've been down Gloucester area.

Won’t be a Turbo. Sprinter, most likely a 3 car 158

Turbo clearance to Brighton won't be completed until December. Can't even run a test train at the moment.

Me and a few others have moved to the Brighton trains so that I can travel on a 158 instead of a very unsuitable 166, I hope at least one diagram stays a 158 post December.

The last clearance works take place this weekend (at Cattle Creep Bridge) and these runs are to do the Platform/Train interface tests on the whole route, hopefully allowing the Brighton route to be validated for Turbo passenger use at a very early opportunity.

This will effectively complete the present Turbo route clearance and passenger use programme.

Will 5 cars run to Brighton in future ?

Any news on additional Brighton services?

Guess it's all minimal changes till the new franchise timetable change aside which hardly affects this route

I would guess it would continue to be 3 car but would be 166s instead of the current 158s...

There seems to still be a bit of Turbo action into Paddington on a Sunday (at more convenient times than the late weekday evening ones). It looks like:

5P34 09+45 Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs to Oxford
1P34 0955 Oxford to London Paddington
5P34 11+09 London Paddington to Reading Traincare Depot
5L00 14+20 Reading Traincare Depot to Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs
5P71 17+47 Oxford Up Carriage Sdgs to Oxford
1P71 1751 Oxford to London Paddington
1K86 1905 London Paddington to Bedwyn
5K91 20+26 Bedwyn to Bedwyn
2K91 2040 Bedwyn to Reading
2K92 2144 Reading to Bedwyn
5K95 22+26 Bedwyn to Bedwyn
2K95 2235 Bedwyn to Reading
2K96 2324 Reading to Newbury
2K99 2355 Newbury to Reading
5K99 00+37 Reading to Reading Traincare Depot

I assume the morning and the evening diagram are the same as on Journey Check they both show as 3 vice 2 today.

13.01.20 Class 166 and 165 operated 1F22 1423 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central. Not sure if this is a regular diagram or not?

lots of pompeys are now turbo, in fact it’s more of an eye raiser when it’s not a turbo.

Oh right, fair enough.

Not sure if it's been asked before, but does a class 165 have a classified first zone and does a 166 have 1 or 2 zones?

Thanks.

No first class on the 2 car 165s - the seats were replaced a few years ago with standard ones. 166s have declassified ex-first class at both ends. Unsure about 3 car 165s.

First class available on 3-car 165s and at one end of a 166 when operating LTV services.
