Was the complaints largely from the public or from MPS and the promises they had to remove these trains which let's face it bought so much publicity, most commuters know what these trains look like and can comment on them.

On a passenger perspective the pacers need to go for sure but not at the expense of capacity.

I do seriously think though if all 142s were refurbished like the northern spirit 142s, the opinions of them might be different indeed as the interiors of those ones are quite smart especially since old northern refreshed them by putting decent lighting in them as I recalled they were quite dull inside as the lighting was poor.
The Northern Spirit "car seats" were far more prone to the headrests collapsing or being ripped off until SercoNedRail Northern recovered and reinforced them. They're definitely the "least-worst" of the Pacers.

The floor mounted heaters were much more efficient on the former East side sets. Plus the seats far more comfortable. Definitely the best of the three variants.

Although unfortunately those heaters seem to remain on all year round even in the summer! Also old northern for whatever reason decided to remove the arm rests from the seats when the sets received their refresh 5 years ago.

Some of the bus seat pacers are fairly smart too but others are not so good. I liked the blue kitchen style flooring that 142068 had although the pacers that kept the original flooring did look shabby at the time.

Less said about the merseyrail ones the better, all of them should of went for scrap first!

sorry to be a pain asking again, is 005 still largely present and visible from a safe place?

I’m thinking of driving from Edinburgh tonight to get a last view in the morning!

It should be visible through the gates on Millmoor lane. But if any mk 4's are moved into the cutting yard that will obscure the view. its unlikely that will happen as the rail gates have been closed from 09.30 when 144 044 arrived this morning.

Having a rather dry sense of humour, I think it would be hilarious to attach 142005 to the back of a working pacer, just to see the looks on the faces of commuters...

Perhaps with an announcement 'First class is situated in the open-air vehicle' :)

Would anybody know if it possible to view the 142s at Worksop please? Thinking of going for some photos there and Rotherham tomorrow.

That's what happened when someone found a loose end of masking tape and carried on pulling it...
