With the news today the company is looking at either handing back the keys, or moving on to a management contract I think that’s probably not good news for the Guards fight

Made a 12% loss for the year ending March 2019. The previous year was a modest profit. It's being kept afloat by financing from Firstgroup and MTR.

The reasons for the poor financial performance are of course outside the scope of this thread.

Amazing how a well run franchise has been turned into a pile of ****
Glad I do not have to use it everyday.

I don’t see the keys handed back option happening as it’ll then be a clear government vs RMT fight. The government needs a scapegoat so it can continue to distance itself, and given a management contract with the right remuneration I’m sure SWR will happily continue to play that role.

There are many reasons for it. The Holden report is worth a read if you want to understand more.

The strike has now finished so the thread is locked, but should the rumoured further pending actions become reality we can consider reopening the thread and rehashing old arguments.

There is already a separate thread on the latest development in respect of the franchise itself. Please continue discussion on that topic there.
