I cannot see Stagecoach or Go North West taking any Halton routes,

Arriva's buses are far better[comfort wise at least] than the ones Halton use even though they may be the same age, the MCVs Halton have are awful i always get cramp with the lack of legroom, then the Scanias Halton have drink fuel like some people drink beer.

Go North West taking on Halton.... Think they have enough to be getting on with in transforming their existing operations than looking at an under-resourced declining operation dependent on schools work and sandwiched between Stagecoach and Arriva ops, of which the latter is the most likely beneficiary

One thing I’m confused about is that if Arriva end up getting Haltons routes where will they get enough vehicles to cover the routes as surely they won’t want Haltons fleet

Strange that there has been speculation on this forum that Stagecoach have wanted Halton for a number of years. Surely this is there opportunity to move into the area and wouldn’t attract any competition concerns?

If they'd actually wanted to surely they'd have started during the last couple of years when it's been obvious Halton wasn't in a good place financially. It wouldn't make sense now that Arriva will be the sole operator on a lot more routes and may be able to cut costs by consolidating their position.

Arriva have always been able to rustle up fleet so doubtless they can either relicense some that are held on reserve, or hire from places like Dawsons. Remember that large bits of the Halton business wouldn't be of interest and they already have services that parallel them anyway.

Yes, can't imagine that Arriva would need many extra buses brought in. School work looks like it's going to Warrington and Arriva already cover most of the main Halton routes. Plenty of spare stuff around if needed.

Are Arriva only taking a couple of routes then and and not all of them?

First of all, this is all speculation. At time of writing, there is no confirmation as to what will happen to Halton Transport. Understand?

Secondly, Arriva already operate a number of services in the area and so, were Halton were to close, they would probably take the opportunity to rationalise the network as there are too few passengers (otherwise Halton would be profitable).

I had a feeling that Warrington would get the 62 I assume St Helens will up the frequency of the 17

Arriva 500 already operates over the Widnes section of the 62, Warrington operate some off peak 62s on an hourly headway but Warrington to Runcorn High Street only, as been said Arriva cover most of the other Halton routes apart from the 26/26A/27/61.

500 can't cope with more passengers, shorts will have to be put on. It suffers enough as it is with punctuality.

26/26A/27 are tenders.

Someone's had a go at getting the buses off the road prematurely
https://www.runcornandwidnesworld.c...e-appeal-launched-vandals-wreck-widnes-buses/

Detectives are appealing for information from the public after vandals caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to buses in Widnes.

A report was received on Monday January 20 that the windows of 10 buses had been smashed sometime overnight at a bus depot on Caldwell Road.

Enquiries in relation to the incidents are ongoing and officers are urging anyone with any information or footage that may aid their investigation to get in touch.

Police have advised that as a result of this and previous acts of vandalism, 12 buses are now off the road.

Halton are going under, One of their Drivers has put on Facebook that he is redundant from Friday and the depot is already being cleared out.

Arriva can always extend the 500 Murdishaw-Green Oaks shorts to Halebank, rather than putting shorts on
What about if there was a 15 min frequency between Runcorn and Halebank? I don't know what the passengers numbers between Widnes and Liverpool are like but around Widnes and Runcorn can be pretty full very often.

The 62 used to be every 15 minutes Halebank to Halton Hospital, every 30 minutes to Warrington until last April, then was cut to every 20 minutes Halebank-Halton Hospital, hourly to Warrington.
