The new Burnley - Colne - Skipton service is going to be called 'Pendle Wizz'. I'm assuming because it will 'wizz' past Pendle and bypass the town that has all the bus links TO Pendle, and not because of the class b drugs that share the same name... Oh dear. As brand names go this one is pretty poor!

Maybe ‘Wizz’ doesn’t have the same meaning in Hungary than it does in the UK. Either way I still think it’s a daft name.

Perhaps it does....in that it conveys rapid movement. I doubt if (m)any see a drugs reference there o_O

Anyhow, I must now log onto Outlook and check my ecstacy-mails :lol:

This Sunday is last free Harrogate Electrics
https://www.transdevbus.co.uk/harrogate/fantastic-year-after-77000-free-journeys-and-estimated-ps11million-economic-impact-Harrogate
Since 3 March 2019 our #HarrogateElectrics have been free for everyone, every Sunday with the Sunday Freeway.

Over 55 weeks – 17 sponsored by Slingsby, 9 by Harrogate Spring Water, 17 by the Harrogate Business Improvement District and 12 offered free from us here at The Harrogate Bus Company – we’ve brought people on 77,000 free journeys in and out of Harrogate.

Some months this has been up to 90% more people than the same period in the previous year, and the scheme has been applauded by local retailers, cafes, restaurants and the BID as bringing a boost to the town’s Sunday trade.

Taking estimates from studies into the impact and spend of bus travellers, 77,000 journeys could have had a £1.1million impact on Harrogate’s economy.

Sunday 15 March will be the last Sunday of the #SundayFreeway as we review a fantastic year, look forward to continuing to carry more people into our town 7 days a week on the UK’s first ever electric town network.

Maybe in Somerset, but round East Lancs if you mention the word ‘wizz’ then it’ll be assumed you’re either wanting to relieve yourself or you’re referencing drugs. If they’d gone for Pendle ’Wizzard’ instead it’d make more sense, could tie in with the Witch theme of the Witch Way.

That’s a shame. It really goes to show that private subsidies along with a decent bus network can get people out of cars and onto the bus. It’ll be interesting to see how many Sunday Freeway regulars stick to the bus going forward.

Given that I’m born and bred Yorkshire and lived in Greater Manchester for 4 years, I think I’m ok in assuming that the default position won’t be a drugs reference to most, if anyone. We’re talking about catching a bus NOT going off to Renaissance for a night in 1994 with Carl Cox or Sasha!!!

Working on that premise, what were Blazefield doing with a large K plastered on their vehicles in the mid 90s :lol:

It was Keighley (and separately K-Line in Hudders) so best not to ask

If they’d gone for Pendle ’Wizzard’ instead

Roy Wood wouldn't like that!

No amount of arguing is going to convince me, or anyone else who thinks it’s a stupid name, that it’s anything but.

Yup.

FWIW WizzAir is a stupid name too.

However, the idea that the general public will see that and think amphetamines.....not really.

Maybe* my mind's just in the gutter, but the second I saw the name I thought of having a wazz. And then I started singing Pulp's "Sorted for E's and Wizz".

But then I was disappointed (and pleased!) that Go called their bus the Tyne Tees Xpress just to avoid it being the Tyne Tee Sexpress

Yep - probably a reflection on you

That being said, there's ads for CBD products on buses in Bath!

Hell! Serious stuff. There’s not much left of it at all! Usually with bus fires there’s at least some of the bodywork that remains recognisable. Wonder if the lightweight materials they use to build the new stuff has anything to do with it.

Depends how quickly the fire spreads (often related to the cause) and the speed of the emergency services to get there and being in the middle of nowhere on the A61 will be a factor.

First Glasgow have had two fires recently. One is heavily damaged but might be salvageable whilst the other was totally burnt out.

I dont think that is entirely appropriate.

Was anyone hurt?

I don't think powering electric buses with a big loud diesel generator while bragging about how clean they are is appropriate, didn't stop it happening!

No one was hurt.

Truly #amazing

Jesus wept. You're worse than me with Brian Souter.

Hope everyone is OK. An impressive fire. And yes, I bet the rural location impacted on how little of the bus was left, although when an Arriva E400 self-immolated at Felton a bit more was left.

Second serious incident for Transdev Harrogate this month after the wheels recently came adrift from a bus.

Oh dear, if it wasn’t bad enough having the regular Transdev hater, we’ve now got the Lothian hater here who ruins those threads as well. Instead of reporting this news sensibly it’s just turned into childish nonsense and boring tired comments as per usual.

I’m not aware of this being the 3rd B5 to be burnt out?

Firstly I don't hate either company so there's no need for ridiculous accusations, secondly no one was hurt, thirdly it's just a box on wheels - Transdev are part of a big corporation I highly doubt the loss of one vehicle will have any real long term impact on them.

It's amazing (excuse the pun) how easily people get wound up on here sometimes!

Maybe because some of us are grown up and prefer grown up discussion not just the same boring ‘one liners’ every week.

I don’t know what some people get out of this forum by making this their only contribution.

If my lighthearted #amazing post bothers you that much then be the 'grown up' and scroll past it, no one was hurt otherwise my tone would've been different. That's all I have to say!

Back on topic....

Do we know what the cause of the fire was yet? I'd assume giving the history regarding this vehicle type that it was possibly engine related, but it could've been vandals as per the recent incident in Glasgow.

Looks to have been the 1625 Leeds Bus Station-Harrogate as bustimes tracking of the 1630 from Leeds Park Row-Ripon relates with the image of the queue of traffic and that 36 being hehind the two HGVs. As to which vehicle it was is less easy to establish from bustimes.

Confirmed as being 3615.

With "was" now being the imperative word — it's literally been burnt to a crisp.

Unfortunately, these events do happen. Thankfully, they are relatively rare and injuries are also uncommon. Not certain that the B5TL is especially prone - even the Citaro thing was massively overblown.

I can recall two instances of particular types being susceptible. Daf SB220LFs when getting on a bit had a propensity to "run a bit hot" and with limited ventilation around the engine, there were some fires. IIRC Arriva Temsa Avenues had an issue in relation to exhaust systems that required a retrofit after a couple caught fire - known at their home depot as Turkish Alights!!

ps the "amazing" sarcasm is probably as tiresome as Alex Hornby - a curious equivalence
