Person hit by a train near Newark, looks like delays and cancellations for the next few hours. I am on 1500 Kings X to Stirling which is being held south of Grantham. Looks like the train involved is 1N95 Grand Central to Sunderland.

My thoughts are with the driver and family of the person involved :( I was very lucky, my train e-stopped just south of Newark for a few minutes as the emergency call came in but was then allowed to continue as it had cleared the affected area.

Was interesting watching the signalling diagram for Peterborough in the immediate aftermath - some very creative platforming (including a TL 700 huddled up on the same platform as an EMR 158) to keep the necessary lines clear for unaffected trains to move through the area.

That's standard practice at Peterborough and has been happening for a far while.

Looks like 1D73 1457 Kings X to Bradford has reversed at Grantham and has now gone back to Peterborough. Not sure whether this is the plan for other services south of the incident.

1N95 which was the service involved in the incident has reversed back into Newark Northgate and is now out of service. Looks like everything is starting to move again with lots of 180+ mins delays

One for a different thread perhaps, but should the WCML (and for that matter the ECML) run more like GWR so that the local trains are provided by the same company?

There will always be overlaps (CrossCountry, TPE and TfW) in the case of the WCML, but reduced overlaps would limit the extent to which part failure (in this case the local connections) causes damage to the other part.

Down in the South West, CrossCountry and GWR were off at the same time.

From Real Time Trains it looks like 180102 was the original 1N95 unit which went OOS at Newark, and later 180101 resumed as 1N95 (from Newark?) running over 4 hours late setting down as booked via Hartlepool to Sunderland.

180101 arrived in from an empty stock from Doncaster and swapped in at Newark Northgate. 180102 is currently in the headshunt at Newark Northgate.

I don't know if it should be a new thread because it's different disruption, but as it compounds on yesterday it may fit here.

This has happened again and someone was hit by a train between Northallerton and York, I think by 1S29 0543 Leeds to Edinburgh. Nothing has moved between the two stations since about 7am.

It was 1S01 06:08 Doncaster to Edinburgh which hit someone near Sessay. 1S29 has been released to return to York with XC 1V83 (06:24 Newcastle - Reading) still stood at Thirsk and LNER 1Y11 (06:30 Newcastle - Kings Cross) at Northallerton.

Suffice to say the ECML is still in a mess now with many cancellations and much late running ongoing.

A reminder of our policy regarding service disruption threads particularly those involving fatalities:

Having reviewed recent threads discussing disruption on the railway we would request that members do not post threads relating to fatalities and other incidents (such as broken down trains or signalling faults) on the railway unless they require advice on their alternative travel options or if the case has been reported by reputable national media outlets.
