I very rarely travel to/through Manchester Victoria, but did so on Saturday. Excuse my ignorance, but I assume the 'juice' is not yet switched-on at all to the east of Manchester Victoria, despite all the infrastructure seemingly being in place for a good few miles towards Huddersfield?
It's currently live from Victoria to Baguley Fold, a couple of miles, and according to previous posts will be extended to Stalybridge, where the wires end, in about a week; Guide Bridge to Stalybridge will follow in March.

SFC means what?
Static Frequency Converter. In railway terms it's a feeder station that uses solid state electronics instead of a transformer, so unlike traditional feeder stations it balances the load across all three phases of the grid, and doesn't need a connection to the highest voltages of the grid.

Are there any other indication of things happening?
At Huddersfield.

Loads of signage about the car park being closed. I’ve not actually seen the car park.

The viaduct has lots of digging happening next to where it hits the ground. Around the bottom of the pillars. All the vegetation along the back of Halfords has been cleared out.

Thanks for that, never heard of it before and I have worked on Electrification schemes in the past. Things change.

Yes the drop off, short stay area and car park beyond are shut.

Theyve put barriers around the old buffet and toilets on p4 now as well.

Lots of work happening everywhere at the minute!

SFCs have been mentioned several times in electrification threads on here. The first in the UK has just been completed at Hambleton where the ECML crosses the Leeds-Hull line.

Not quite the first; Potteric Carr (south of Doncaster) was the first. Hambleton, however, is the world's largest!

Now.There are some NR guys who've just finished using a gauging device? on the farthest Siding from platform 8 at Huddersfield. No visible work on roof, listed refreshment place surrounded by fencing, but no action.
There is something going on in front of of the closed off tunnel nearest platform 8 on the land occupied by the Brian Jackson centre. Excavator moving stuff in front of big warehouse.
Stuff being moved about in compound in front of warehouse.

Lots of action at temporary Huddersfield station at Hillouse?. Site cleared, levelled and being marked out. Worksite at Heaton Lodge barriered off. Currently disused bridges relating to extra tracks between Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe undergoing inspection / work. Big site at Ravensthorpe for bypass. Morley station coming on nicely.

The wires are now live between Vic and Stalybridge, they where switched on, on new year's day with a test train due sometime next week.
I posted on here a while ago.

So how long before we see a Northern or a TPE with a pan up along this section though?

Is there a chance that we could end up seeing 331s or maybe even 333s make their way to way York once Electrification works are complete?

At the current rate of progress I think there's a good chance that the 333s may have been withdrawn by the time the electrification has been completed....and maybe the 331s too!

im guessing its all prep work right now?
I don’t know. I didn’t stay to watch them work. Depends what you mean by prep. I don’t think any track or buildings affected yet.

Looks like a new bridge supports under construction.

There are compounds all along the viaduct across the ring road.

There has been extensive digging next to the viaduct around the pillars on Bradford Road. And the land between the viaduct and Halfords has been cleared out for access.

The businesses remaining under viaducts arches are in discussion about how long they close for. On the bit by Tesco. The businesses further down behind the car garage are all long gone.

I don’t think the works have gone over the sidings yet.

I haven’t been to look at Hillhouse and I’ve not been past on a train. I’m presuming that when the Hillhouse sidings are done, the Huddersfield sidings will be lifted.

The Huddersfield sidings will have to go before the new platforms can be started.

And there is the big job of rearranging the existing station.

There are a lot of fibre runs along the railway. And these will need moving to a safe place.

Had a look on AIVR on the CFM route (Church Fenton - Micklefield) - foundations have been at least marked out for circa 4km SW of the A162 underbridge (CFM/5) at Barkston Ash; not quite the whole way to Micklefield, but a good chunk of the way!
The footage was taken in the last days of December so the situation may well have changed since; the line has been closed for further engineering work this Sunday just gone (21/01/24), and will be closed again next Sunday (28/01/24) and the Sunday after that (04/02/24).
Also see https://thetrupgrade.co.uk/A162/ - this details the piling extents that took place over Christmas.
Some of mast foundations are now in.

So that would confirm that we are now definitely seeing wiring from Church Fenton (North Junction) to Micklefield, although not specifically announced!

I'm 80 in March. I'm hoping to make a journey from Wigan to Bolton by electric train. My mother lived till she was 99.9!

relatively easy section and from an efficiency point of view makes absolute sense to keep on heading towards Leeds using existing site setup and resources.

I have said it before and I will say it again: “under promise and over deliver “ is a great way of doing things.

There was definitely piling on the Leeds bound line covering something like a mile worth of track. Saw it yesterday on my way to York. It starts maybe a mile or two away from Curch Fenton (distances are complete guesses, I wasn't paying that much attention).
