Possibly the cheapest post on this thread for a while, but the previous owners of two of my class 86s weren't the most careful, so I was pleased to find that Dapol do replacement N gauge pantographs in both Stone-Faively and Brecknell-Willis types.

My son bought this Lima DRS class 20 that was described as a non- runner by the seller, who had used it for double heading.

He passed it on to the engineering department (ie. me), this morning, for attention.

Obvious issues were a missing cab end headcode box and wrong bonnet end coupling hook, which wouldn’t operate. I had the correct hook as a spare, so swapped these over which solved the coupling issue. I also had a spare home made headcode box from another WIP 20 I’d never completed, so this got donated to the DRS 20 project and was fitted with new locating pegs to the holes in the cab end. There were also two missing traction tyres.

On removing the body I was delighted to see all the necessary parts needed for a running class 20!!!

The drive shaft between the motor and bogie wasn’t in position, but I located it rattling about in the body, so this was an easy fix.

To my surprise the motor ran very sweetly at the first attempt at attaching connectors from a power controller directly to the wheels.

I then attempted to run on some tight reverse curves but noticed all was not well. On taking the motor bogie to bits I discovered one of the gears had a broken pin. These pins hold the gears in position on the sides of the bogie housing. I drilled out the gear and super glued a length of rod to replace the missing pin and this all worked perfectly.

I found one single suitable traction tyre, so overall I’m only missing a traction tyre.

Not bad for a few hours fiddling around today.

They’re quite nicely detailed. Are they easy enough to fit?

Very good work!

Those Lima 20s were pretty decent models with good motors compared to the standard pancake ones.

You certainly deserve the engineering department tag! That's a neat gear fix! And it's definitely looking very fine now. I do love a class 20.

Yes, simple enough if you're OK with nano screws! There's just one in the centre of the housing which you screw through from underneath. When you take the body off, the screw is under the roof......so if you drop it, it only falls into a small enclosed area! I speak from recent experience! :D

They look, er, fiddly... (And we think the UK OHL in places is prone to potential issues in real life!)

A bargain I picked up at Model Rail Scotland. 20064 in it's 1987 condition when it worked the "Three to the Sea" railtour. I still need to add disks to the end.

Ah the memories :) 2nd May 1987. My brother and I headed from WCML "home turf" to the Midland Main Line, to see the outward trip. What a delightful warbling from those three EE 8-cylinder blocks 8-)

All this class 20 chit-chat has resulted in an impulsive purchase of a pair of N gauge Hunslet-Barclay weedkilling locos on eBay this evening. Kilmarnock's 20904 and 20906 will be in the post to me tomorrow. :D
I'll stick a pic up when they arrive

Very happy with these! Very free running. They’ll form a Jacobite/railtour rake on my layout. I’d like a WCRC 37 to go with them though please AS!

I resisted these 1st time around. Now I've seen how good they are, I may end up replacing my ageing rake of Hornby 2A's if/when they do another run.
Accurascale have hinted in RMWeb about doing Aircon Mk.2s as well. That could get expensive!

Yeah I think there will be plenty more on the way.
Oh those look sublime 8-) It's two years ago next week, that I ordered blue-grey ecamples. I can see the wait's been worth it.
I’ve got a few blue grey Mk2C’s on order, I’m going to see how they colour match with other manufacturers existing blue/grey stock before going ‘all in.’ Doing the WHL, I can have a train with AS Mk2’s, Hornby Mk3’s, Heljan ETHEL and AS or Bachmann 37, so the colours looking okay together is essential!

I'm awaiting my dispatch email :)
AS rocks!
I was waiting a while and starting to get a little anxious, but keep the faith. I’m intrigued to see which ones you have gone for!

I note, and you've probably seen it yourself, that over on RMWeb someone has done a colour comparison between NSE liveried Accurascale and Bachmann Mark 2s, and it's given me confidence that an Accurascale 2C will blend nicely into my Bachmann Regional Railways liveried rake.

I seem to have a 20 addiction. Another addition to the fleet, this time 20192 in BR Blue.

That’s a stunner, surely you need another one to keep it company? ;)

Yes, I saw that, it was very helpful. We need someone to do a BR blue comparison though…

It's the 4th in the fleet now so I've got 2 pairs to run. Two BR Blue, one Railfreight and one Tinsley Green

Excellent. I think you might need the other green one though. ;)

Yes although I think it will probably have to be a re-name and number, can nearly re-create "Three to Sea" then

Choppers from post 1478 arrived today.....and I had to get another couple of items, as I couldn't just leave them lying around doing nothing!

Oh I do like that Hunslet weedkiller set :) I remember seeing them warbling through Clapham Junction. I think those water tanks were green at the time I saw them in action - I'll dig out my old 35mm photos.
Yes, that's right, I think Revolution do the green Chipman TTAs - these are the Farish ones. If you look closely, they're Chipman branded, but I'd much prefer the green ones!

That’s superb. Something a bit different and really interesting too. Definitely bringing some memories back here!
Yes, I'm pretty chuffed with these :D
No need to resort to Rule 1 either.....since they lived in Kilmarnock in Era8 .....although I suppose they went absolutely everywhere in the summer!
Do you reckon he spot-hires them to the West Country? ;)
Full weedkilling rake is available for loan to any winter-themed display layouts for free on request!

Actually, Lapford in the summer would make a nicer photoshoot :D
Why would they be in Devon in the winter?? 8-)
