The easyjet service from GLA/EDI to BHX is useful but they have never expanded the offering or keep changing the times of flights.
Re expanding the offering, they probably have assessed that they have reached the optimum level. Looking at next Monday, there are 4 flights from EDI to BHX with flights currently no more than £46. That feels a pretty reasonable deal to me.

Early morning flight down to BHX and good flight times made the flight a better choice than Avanti.

If I’m ever of the need to go to in Scotland I invariably drive, but if I wasn’t driving I’d probably consider the train even behind taking the coach. Flying is easily the second best option.

With the exception of driving, I've done them all over the years. Timings of the overnight coach used to work nicely for going to and from grandparents in Leicester after work or indeed coming home from Birmingham. Having done a couple of days work down there and had a night out with colleagues prior to return to Edinburgh. My preference was however the train but price and reliability often dictated that the plane was the answer, especially when BMI baby and I think another budget type carrier were doing the service, flyby were never the best as far as I was concerned and although I used it, it wasn't my choice, and by the time the EasyJet Birmingham service came along my needs to reach the West Midlands had disappeared all together

EasyJet regularly change the times of flights as many of their domestic flights are effectively 'in-fills' for when their aircraft would otherwise be parked up.

Here in the IOM we don't get consistent flight times for our EasyJet flights. We get the flights when it suits EasyJet. Or not, when it also suits EasyJet.

Yes I have noticed this. There was an early flight from GLA to SOU on the Saturday which has been stopped. Early flights on a saturday morning change too but are useful as they save a nights accommodation on the Friday.

Easyjet has announced 6 routes from Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh, with an additional aircraft to be based at Bristol:
easyJet has announced today that it will launch six new routes from four UK airports this summer and is growing its UK fleet with an additional A320 family aircraft at its Bristol base, supporting around 400 jobs.

New services set to take off this summer include flights to Milan Linate from Manchester and Edinburgh and two new routes from Birmingham to Gibraltar and Bordeaux. The additional aircraft in Bristol will support the launch of two new routes to Palermo in Italy and Almeria in Spain.

The new routes to Milan Linate have been enabled by the opening of a five aircraft base at Linate next spring, following approval by the European Commission for easyJet to be the short haul remedy taker of slots in Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino, as part of the transaction between ITA Airways and Lufthansa.

As a result, the airline will also open three-aircraft base at Rome Fiumicino from 30 March 2025, joining existing bases in Milan Malpensa and Naples, offering an even wider choice and great value fares from the UK to Italy’s major cities.

Flights to Linate from Manchester and Edinburgh will take off for the first time on 30 March 2025 with flights up to seven days a week throughout the year, complementing existing easyJet services to Milan Malpensa and providing more choice and connectivity to Italy’s second biggest city. The airline will also increase frequencies from London Gatwick to Milan Linate from one to up to two daily departures.

From Birmingham, flights to Bordeaux will take off from 1 May and to Gibraltar from 1 June 2025, with twice-weekly departures on Thursdays and Sundays throughout the summer to Bordeaux and flights year-round to Gibraltar. New flights from Bristol to Almeria in Spain will launch on 24 June 2025 and operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year, while a new summer route to Sicily’s capital Palermo will launch on 26 June 2025, with twice-weekly departures on Thursdays and Sundays.

Tour operator easyJet holidays has launched thousands of packages across the new routes, adding to its already vast offering to over 100 beach and city holiday destinations. All easyJet holidays packages include flights, hotel and 23kg luggage and transfers on beach holidays, all covered by its Ultimate Flexibility, offering freedom to change a booking, a refund guarantee, and best price guarantee.

The airline has also confirmed today that a 19th Airbus A320 family aircraft at Bristol will now join additional aircraft at Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham arriving this summer, along with three aircraft at the airline’s newest UK base in London Southend which opens at the end of March 2025. The growth of the easyJet’s fleet in the UK next summer will enable the airline to provide greater choice and connectivity for customers, as well as supporting the economy, with each UK based aircraft supporting 400 direct and indirect jobs and £27m gross value added (GVA).

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Country Manager, said:

"Following another consecutive record summer, easyJet is continuing to grow in the UK next year with more aircraft, enabling us to offer an even greater choice of flights and package holidays for our customers across the country.

EasyJet have stopped serving the Isle of Man from Bristol and they sought to blame Air Passenger Duty for their decision. These changes show what we all know: they were lying.

I’d much rather they were honest in these pronouncements: “we can make more money flying somewhere else”.

Lots of leisure options. Interesting Linate is operating alongside Malpensa.

Easyjet have wanted to move into Linate for a long time, and I suspect they'd be happy to base their entire operation there if they could.

I flew Gatwick to Linate last year with easyJet. Much better option than the others for city breaks

Edinburgh to Birmingham out tomorrow back Thursday 10C/28D avoided "piggy in the middle" so seat money can be used for refreshments.

If you don't go for the "basic" Fare their add on fees are getting extortionate either for Hold Bag or Bigger Cabin Cab - easily more than the cost of the flight in some instances.

First flight Manchester to Newquay this year, and I'm on it shortly! Hopefully my small bag will fit in the small bag cage! The small carryon bag allowance is far better than Ryanair so I'd choose EZY if there's a choice.

Had to use a Bus on arrival into Birmingham Tuesday from Edinburgh.

Unusual in my experience.

Noticed they have jacked up the refreshment prices - A Coffee is 3.70 odd now= dearer than BA !!

That has happened with one of my Glasgow to Birmingham flights. Bus.

Been a long time since I have bought something onboard.

Have to agree that the add-ons are getting rather pricey now, I continue to justify it to myself that I'm paying for the reliability that the train simply doesn't offer so much of the time. And certainly in the case of most stuff on the ecml I'm paying for a better seat also, and a shorter time sitting in it even if it wasn't.

Glasgow to Southampton tomorrow and back Saturday - dreaded piggy in the middle both flights- luck ran out !!

However at £54 Return I shouldn't grumble ?

Depends on the destination, time of day, time of year, how full the flight is. The pricing is dynamic.

For domestic IME it’s normally £5-£10 for the cheap seats, £25-£35 for the seats up front.

If the flight is more than an hour I pay, if not I don’t. But I generally find Loganair to be no more expensive by the time I’ve added a suitcase, and on Loganair there’s no middle seat to worry about.

ETA: when I’m travelling alone. If travelling with someone else I don’t pay, they don’t tend to split groups up

Not normally worth paying for seats with EasyJet, as unlike other budget carriers they try wherever possible to allocate adjacent seats to groups travelling together. EasyJet also allows online checkin and boarding pass issue from 30 days in advance.

You will be lucky to find a Loganair UK Domestic Flight for less than £100 each way between Scotland and England - I paid £54 return.

First time I've had a piggy checking in for a flight less than 24 hours beforehand - expected it on the return.

I always check in late, but it's been ages since I was given a middle seat between people on easyJet. I never buy a seat on any of them, but easyJet barely even seem to be trying to make you.

The second bit about baggage is the important bit with EasyJet. My experience is that there’s usually very little difference between Loganair and EasyJet once you’ve added a 15kg hold bag. And a 15kg hold bag is usually slightly cheaper than a large cabin bag on easyJet these days.

It's the typical sun destinations generally.

But it often does depend on the market. Weirdly, when Loganair experimented with a third daily flight from IOM to Manchester suddenly you couldn’t move for easyJet offering £25 seats, and even more weirdly, when Loganair pulled the third flight you didn’t see them anymore.

If easyJet are only charging £25 each way then they can’t be making any money; APD+airport fees will cover that.

One of the issues regional airlines in the UK have and why so many have struggled and have now gone.

If one of the big boys thinks a regional is treading on their toes they can throw money at the issue increasing frequencies and slashing fares. The regional will soon have to retreat due to differences in financial power. Then the big boy returns to business as usual on fares.

Note easyjet doesn't fly to Dublin for the same reason. Ryanair would slash fares to the UK to chase them off the market.

The difference now being that many of the customers will be from easyJet holidays. I suspect that is what is primarily driving them going back to airports like Newcastle with force. Consider how many of easyJet’s traditional UK bases have seen Jet2 rock up - Liverpool, Bristol, Luton etc. This is a fight back.

I wish they would operate from Edinburgh to Southampton in addition to Glasgow.

My £54 return was not atypical just the cheapest combination I could find

It really is a great way to travel between Scotland and Southampton -less than an hour in the air.

They were rumoured 12 months ago to be starting a few flights out of EMA. This has sadly not happened, i heard it from a friend in the industry so got my hopes up.

That would be great as EMA is my local airport. We are regular users of jet2 holidays from there. But they don't fly to Egypt as easyJet do but from Luton so we have to drive down to LIA. That adds two hrs to the journey. Whereas we only 35mins from EMA.

GLA-SOU is a great route and allows me to visit family on the south coast far more easily than any of the alternatives. I've not yet tried Loganair south from Scotland but in general their fares seem prohibitively expensive compared to EasyJet.
