    Catch them before they're gone

There’s some interesting Ersatzzüge (replacement stock) operating in the Düsseldorf/Duisburg area, although as ever, try and check if they’re still running before setting off on a quest! The published timetables online for those lines (PDFs) usually give an indication of Ersatzzüge. a) locos...

(https://germanytransitpass.com/) Quoting myself for an update. All worked fine when I was there in late May, and the month is now June and no additional payment taken.

    What made you happy today?

Hoo Junction to Grain. Noticed a couple of tank trains running on a Sunday when I was in the area. Sat in the shade until I saw it join the branch on traksy, and wandered down to Solomon’s crossing on a footpath near a farm. Stood on the stile for this, top and tailed as it went via Tonbridge to...

    What made you happy today?

Sitting in a field in the shade, waiting for one of two trains today on a freight-only branch. Birdsong and distant traffic. edit: bonus - the freight train was on time

Miscellaneous/Special Purpose Private Owner (PXA, PXB, PXF, PXO, PXP, PXQ, PXV, PXW, PXX) Wagons

There's a reference on LTSV at https://www.ltsv.com/rd/batch_detail.php?id=BWP-04951 suggesting they were goods brake vans with the van bit cut off and referencing PX012A. Do they appear in the Barrowmore diagram books? (I can't access those at the moment)

    SBB Dusseldorf to Zurich

Very few running this week for engineering work. We were booked on EC7 to Mainz today but it disappeared from the timetables so we had to get an ICE via the high speed line. Some IC/EC/ICE were running via the Rhine, but not as many as usual. Our local train back from Mainz-Koblenz had a lot of...

    Hull-Rotterdam ferry bus transfers

Worth mentioning that when I went that way, on the Dutch side there were buses (coaches) for both Amsterdam and Rotterdam so check you're on the right one once you get off the boat. Think there may have been more than one bus for Amsterdam but relatively few passengers for Rotterdam so only 1...

SeatFrog ticket swap now resulted in being investigated - needing advice!

It's possible that I might not have the current version of the app. But that might help the OP.

SeatFrog ticket swap now resulted in being investigated - needing advice!

It doesn't say that for me! I got this sequence just now (screenshots from home screen to "something went wrong" = failed to find a train):

Eurostar: Additional passport check on arrival at St P?

I had the railway police (Polizia Ferroviaria) ask me for ID twice recently in Sicily. Same two guys, different locations, and the second time I think one of them recognised me from the day before while I rummaged in my zipped pocket for my passport.

Planelektrisch? Planzuknaller? (the second is me trying to find a German translation of slammer!)

    Interesting lines in the Netherlands

+1 for the Utrecht museum and shuttle. Couple of other things I enjoyed: I took a train to Sliedrecht near Dordrecht for a bit of lineside photography beside the freight-only Betuweroute. Also cycled out of Gouda to take photos at the 3-way flying junction to the W of town.

lostwin - BR in the mid 80's

Yes, the headcodes were route codes rather than train type codes. That route was known as boat train route 1, the preferred route for direct Vic to the ferry boat trains, with Maidstone E 2 and Chatham 3 I think.

46 was the headcode for “boat train route 1”, Vic-Sevenoaks-Tonbridge-Dover (and 56 for Folkestone Harbour). More often photographed on the front of an MLV+12 boat train!
