    Very short London Bus routes

As a kid I used to study the LT bus map. I lived in SE London / Kent, but that didn't stop me studying other areas covered on the map. I noticed there were some very short bus routes, one in particular the 248A Upminster to Corbets Tey, peak hour service. Taking 6 minutes to do the whole route...

    Liverpool to Wigan

Just noticed this service at Liverpool Lime Street. Not the usual route, is this a 'parliamentary ' service or something new ? Thanks

Did a anyone use the Ongar service when it was operated by London Underground?

Did anyone use the Central Line Epping to Ongar service ? It was one of those tube lines I always wanted to go on ( like Aldwych ) which I never got to experience . I've always found seeing a tube train running in rural locations quite a curiosity ....must go to Chesham once day !

    TFW at Runcorn

Does anyone know why when a TFW service from Liverpool to Chester stops at Runcorn, it stops quite far along the platform beyond the station building. I think passengers find it quite strange it should do this. This doesn't happen on Liverpool bound services.

    Avocet line

I've come across an unusual service while stopping in Topsham, the 20.24 Exmouth to Cardiff Central direct. It seems the only routing like this.

    Birmingham to Liverpool capacity drop

Travelled to Birmingham today from Acton Bridge, the 07.59, was packed , only 4 carriages . Turns out the 07.30 Lime Street to Euston was cancelled, so even worse than it would be. I see my.return this afternoon at 15.34 also only 4 cars rather than the normal 8. Still no 30 min service, so...

    West Croydon to Wimbledon

Unfortunately I never got to ride on this line, particularly during the days of Southern Region slam doors. Has anyone any memories of it ? What were the stations like, passenger usage and service available. The nearest I got to in the area was Elmers end to Adiscombe and once to Sanderstead...

    London Country route 401

A bit of nostalgia for me this weekend. I had cause to stop over in Eynsford, as a lad i remember seeing bus 401 at Bexleyheath heading for Eynsford Station. I know this route did run further to Sevenoaks but I dont really recall that. I arrived at Eynsford by train and imagined the 401...

    Eltham Park

Does anyone have any memories of this station on the Bexleyheath Line ? I never used it, although I used the line a lot. The station seems somewhat rundown , had large canopies over the platforms from what I remember. Eventually lost its Sunday service, probably along the same time as Eden Park...

    NPR will it ever happen?

Reports in todays " i " dont give much confidence with this project . Rishi has already stated investment should be moved from deprived areas to areas like Tunbridge Wells . https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/rishi-sunak-liz-truss-pledge-northern-powerhouse-rail-full-version-north-1949589

    Barnehurst

There were or maybe still are points at Barnehurst. In the days when I commuted from Bexleyheath in the 80s, there were certainly a number of peak services that began or ended at Barnehurst. My question is , did these trains simply start or continue to Slade Green or did some reverse at...

    All Stations except St Johns

This was a common announcement when I used to commute from Bexleyheath to London. In fact it would seem in the 80s that hardly any services seem to stop at this station on the SE suburban routes. I then learnt the Hayes service did call at St Johns, otherwise to me it seems a marooned halt...

    London Transport short workings

When I was a kid, my local LT bus was the 122 in Bexleyheath. What I recall were the numerous termination points this route had. Starting at the Terminus Bexleyheath Garage, then Bexleyheath Station, East Wickham, Plumstead Garage, Woolwich, Eltham Green ,Lewisham, Brockley Rise, Forest Hill and...

    Busy single platform stations

I was wondering the other day if there are any stations with just the one platform, that are actually quite busy. You tend to think of single platform stations on quiet rural branch lines, but maybe there are some exceptions ? Of course there could be some terminus stations which have frequent...

    Chester station platforms poor condition

Chester is a popular city for visitors, yet it's station leaves a lot to be desired. I passed through last Saturday, and it really is a grubby place. Its such a shame as the building is pretty grand.

    1st Class GWR

I recently travelled from Runcorn to Exeter via London. I was very much looking forward to GWRs first class, but found it very disappointing . I left Paddington at lunch time and was amazed the catering offered nothing for lunch, not even a sandwich. Biscuits , Cake or Crisps was about it. So I...

    London Transport Route 124A

I was brought up in the Bexley area and as a kid I remember seeing the Sunday afternoon only 124A to Bexley Hospital. At the Bexley Hospital terminus it looked like the bus would do a turn in the road, I never saw this happen, or it could have continued up to the roundabout over the A2 to...

Burscough Curve: could it be reopened? If so, how should this be achieved and what services should run along it?

There has been recent news on re-opening one of the curves which will allow trains from Southport to reach Ormskirk direct. https://www.lep.co.uk/news/transport/bid-to-directly-connect-preston-to-southport-by-train-3182875 from Lancslive.

    Memories of Broad Street

I used this station a few times when I was in my teens. I remember the first time I arrived into the main station concourse and being so shocked to see how run-down is was. I had a friend in Gunnersbury at the time so wanted to try this route, which I found very interesting as it weaved its way...

    Bus 48 Northwich - Frodsham

This rural route lost its Saturday service a few years ago unfortunately. A more recent change is on Wednesdays the service for part of the day is numbered 48A and is routed via Cuddington. Morning and afternoon services revert back to 48 to cater for schools. Service is every 2 hours.
