Southampton to Waterloo vs Southampton to Victoria

I don't think the OP was considering the Portsmouth Direct route. ;) That would require a change at Havant.

Multiple intentional fare evasions - Southeastern

Makes no odds. The correct salutation is Dear Sirs when writing a formal letter to an organisation, rather than to an individual.

Multiple intentional fare evasions - Southeastern

I would suggest that "Dear Sirs" would be more appropriate than "To whom it may concern".

    Trivia: Station nicknames

In Portsmouth people still talk about the 'Town Station' to differentiate it from the 'Harbour Station'. Comes from the time before it was Portsmouth & Southsea Station and when there was a separate Southsea Station. [And of course at that time Portsmouth wasn't a city]

    HS2 Eastern Leg updates

But the phrase I objected to is... "the most value"? That simply is not true.

    HS2 Eastern Leg updates

Really? I thought the 'major benefit of HS2' was to relieve pressure on the southern parts - between London and Birmingham - of the West Coast Mainline. But we digress...

Where exactly are the "Southern Saver" and "Thameslink Saver" tickets valid to and from?

Do Southern trains stop at those stations you say are missing?

Trivia: most underwhelming end to a main route?

I agree, St Albans Abbey station is pretty dismal, but does it count as the end of a 'main line'?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

matacaster, you offer no comment on item 5) in your list. Why is that?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

If we are going to build any line at all, wouldn't it be a good idea to future proof it in some way? Maybe by building a line capable of higher speeds and frequencies. The incremental cost would be relatively small.

Trivia: Competing routes where the younger route is now the senior route.

Waterloo to Portsmouth via Portsmouth Direct / Guildford.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Hooverboy, what have your most recent two posts to do with the railway? More particularly, what have they to do with East-West Rail?

Platform 3 at Woking is a fair stroll.

Trivia: Lines/stations planned but never built or built but never opened

Does the Croxley Rail Link, aka the Metropolitan Line Extension fit here?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

OK, so in one sentence you tell us there is not much freight and in the next propose building a line dedicated to freight. I wonder if anyone would object to a freight only line being built?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

No mention of freight in there.

Any news on proposals to build an alternative route between Exeter & Plymouth?

The link (with one change of trains) between Portsmouth and Plymouth is already in place - change at Westbury.
