    Why don’t heritage railways make an effort to “sell” diesel traction?

    Personally I prefer open carriages providing a good view of the countryside or particular parts of the heritage railway; stations, sidings, engine sheds, lineside features etc.. Whether the train is hauled by a steam engine or a diesel doesn't matter. A DMU is usually ideal for this purpose...

    And here is a picture of the overhead gantries on the viaduct. Why did they need so many wires? These continued on wooden pylons alongside the railway to the substation at Radcliffe. Not sure hw they were taken over the Irwell viaduct at Radcliffe.

    Many, many years ago I went to Arran from Fairlie Pier. That was bleak, except for a fire in the waiting room which I coudn't get near. We ended up walking around the town early in the morning. I have a recollection, which might be false, but we boarded the ferry across a plank.

    Since WW2 the idea of ribbon development has been prevented through the use of green belt. From the point of view of linking public transport to new build, a better approach is to build along the main transport routes of rail, bus services and road or concentrated in selected urban locations...

    Leeds Marsh Lane

    They may be some clues from the original station at Selby opened at the same time. This building is still standing adjacent to the current station though possibly altered by its current industrial use.
