    Proposed Golborne Railway Station

I'm sure that was the reason behind the car sharing, which was thankfully improved once the new carpark was opened. However, it's still difficult to find a space after 8:00 am. I think some sharing is still going on to some lesser degree judging by the number of cars still parked at Golborne...

    Proposed Golborne Railway Station

At a local public meeting in Golborne just prior to lockdown, Andy Burnham stated that the station at Golborne would definitely be going ahead. Adding a stop for the Man Airport to Cumbria TPE was the service mooted. (I would have thought however that TPE wouldn't be too happy slowing that...

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

I would have thought that approach control to the "mickey mouse" signal over the A573 would be the method on the Down line would be the solution for anything going into Wallgate? A brief few seconds stop whilst mode was changed over, then away.

Heinz Factory near Wigan to get its own siding?

Slight digression, but there's an excellent cab ride video on Don Coffey's YouTube channel of the Knowsley binliner service, showing the reversal and also the container 'swops' in the depot (an internal 'pad'). Not sure if YouTube links are allowed here so I wont post it.. just do a search on...

Heinz Factory near Wigan to get its own siding?

I did also think about this, but wouldn't top and tailing increase (double?) the carbon footprint of the service, which goes against the initial principle of the whole concept?

Heinz Factory near Wigan to get its own siding?

I'm still curious as to how the return journey will be made? As there is no longer a loop at Burscough Bridge, then is it a trip all the way to Southport to run around?

Heinz Factory near Wigan to get its own siding?

Should be fine. The regular Teeside to Knowsley (66+FKA's?) binliners pass through a-ok

Heinz Factory near Wigan to get its own siding?

Wouldn't a simple loop be more efficient than a siding, and take up minimal space, with a load / unload facility adjacent? So a 50% width increase on the permanent way for a few hundred metres, and the loading facility on Heinz land? That would also provide a run-round option for eastbound exit...

    New Station calendar

Although I was only a young lad at the time, I too don't recall an original service to Manchester, but the services to the south IIRC went via Newton le Willows and Earlestown junctions / stations

    New Station calendar

Would make sense to site it in the same, or very close area as plenty of land where the old coal sidings were, and is adjacent to a current car park which does have scope for enlargement onto the afore mentioned NR land

    New Station calendar

The Golborne station reopening was always going to be close to the top of Andy Burnham's agenda, seeing that he lives in the town  , and is much more likely to go ahead than the proposed parkway station at Kenyon, as that would need cooperation from Warrington Cheshire, which is situated...

Don Coffey cab ride video discussion

Good to see Don's excellent videos back, and I believe there's a new one premiering tonight. However, contrary to that, all the Freight Rambler and associated videos appear to have disappeared over the past couple of days:frown: Can anyone shed any light?

    Before the Ordsall Chord

One of the YouTube cab ride videos by Don Coffey actually does this manoeuvre, post Ordsall curve, for maintaining route knowledge.

    Steam Locos and Turntables/ Wyes

There's a triangle at Chester, and steam charters to Holyhead turn the loco at the triangle at Valley. There's also a triangle at Wavertree, Liverpool using the olive mount chord, but I'm unsure if that's ever been used for turning a loco

Ince Moss Junction : abandoned tracks

I've a set of quail maps from 1990, and they're shown as active as "Wigan Ince Moss Tip", so they were in use then.

    Platform Extensions

Was there an opportunity missed when Newton-le-Willows station was upgraded last year that the platforms weren't lengthened whilst engineers / plant were already on site? There appears to be plenty of room to the east for around 100m more platform before the curve kicks in. The new Nova 1's now...

    Newton-Le-Willows Station Car Park

It wasn't allowed until recently, but now it is, and is still free. However, despite the upgrade, it's usually full well before 7-30 am on weekdays so you'll need to get there early.

    Delay Repay

I gave up recently trying to get a delay repay from Transport for Wales. The online form was insisting on a four digit ticket reference number, but my ticket was blank where the 'help?' section said to look in order to find it (under the date entry). So I couldn't continue with the claim. (the...

Petition for Manchester Piccadilly platforms 15 & 16

Unless things have changed over the past couple of years, my quail maps shows Platform 5 at Earlestown can accommodate 5 cars and Platform 4 can handle 7 cars, and both platforms at Newton-le-Willows can accommodate 5 cars. If that is no longer the case (longer units?), then there should be...

Railtour timings on open data sites (such as RealTimeTrains)

The "Baird of Avon" hauled by Tornado which ran yesterday (the 23rd) only appeared on RTT the day before, Friday, despite the timings being confirmed by the tour operator a week earlier.
