Is there a case for extending some St Pancras to Nottingham services to Mansfield?

You can't turn anything longer than a 3 coach passenger train back at Mansfield Woodhouse and I'm not sure you can fit 5 at Worksop either so you'd be talking major signalling and station alterations.

    SWR after May

Oh yes, I remember Lawrence at East Midlands Trains. Pleasant chap to speak to and quite keen - I seem to recall finding him on my 153 somewhere near Spalding (I think) or the like one early bank holiday morning and in the usual tongue in cheek manner enquired as to what had gotten a Director...

Disabled passenger left stranded at Liverpool Street

Ultimately the question of assistance being provided 100% of the time without flaw is never going to occur - that's why a robust and punitive compensation scheme is required and appropriate. However it is inevitable that no matter how hard you try and put the right resource in place...

Derby-Matlock tweak - operational, or to save claims?

Yes, they've been as good as their word and fixed it from Thursday onwards - now been updated in RTT.

    Conductor CMS file query

Sounds like it is being managed sensibly - I can't tell you to put it behind you because you're clearly a conscientious person but get on with looking forward to the rest of your career :D

    Conductor CMS file query

Unless you have had some more serious issues beforehand you'll most likely end up with a rebrief to check your diagram more carefully and possibly a plan and it'll make no difference to your probation - you and the company have spent a lot of money and time to get you to where you are and a...

Derby-Matlock tweak - operational, or to save claims?

I believe the questions have been asked internally and it isn't intentional and hopefully they'll be able to alter it.

Driving well below the speed limit

It's all great until someone not paying attention bimbles out in front of you as you bear down on them at a daft rate of knots. I once had some silly old Doris who hadn't even unfolded her wing mirror pull out from behind a tractor on a dual carriageway doing 25 mph as I was approaching at 70...

UPDATED: Possible Meeting With GWR to Discuss Concerns/Questions

I suspect they've offered the coffee shop because it's a neutral environment for all parties and they feel you might be more at ease than if you're sat behind a desk in someone else's office potentially not very local to you. Internal railway meetings often take place in coffee shops where I...

Derby-Matlock tweak - operational, or to save claims?

I doubt it's intentional, but anyone with an aversion to taxis usually used the 2031 anyway because the connection at Derby has been rubbish for some time and is regularly missed. Hopefully something that is addressed with the big December change.

    Jumping Barrier Incident

A marvellous video passed my eye the other day involving a nasty little man in a Tesco aiming fly kicks and throwing large items off the shelves at the supermarket staff whilst they tried to keep out of the way. Obviously, the morals of some dingbat standing there filming are a bit dubious but I...

Class 222 on an EMR Regional service

They don't really like stopping services but they aren't terrible - when we had a 222 diagram on the Leicester - Lincoln circuit in EMT days 95% of the time it was a 222/1 4 car set that was booked to sit spare (it occasionally went on an outing to Crewe as well). I believe the only thing that...

Class 222 on an EMR Regional service

There is a less than stunning photo here in this news article from the time of the 222 in Matlock station, recognisable only from the wooden fence  https://www.derbyshiretimes.co.uk/news/full-report-queens-visit-to-matlock-2278761 I don't believe one has been since though.

Class 222 on an EMR Regional service

A 222 has been to Matlock in service before, it was subbed for the booked 153 when Queen Elizabeth II went up there by rail about 10 years ago. Since the river bridge at Whatstandwell was repaired the route restrictions have been removed. Yes it has, it just doesn't get that much publicity.

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

There are (at least) 26 Regional units stopped today undergoing repair or failed (possibly more since that tally). That is the equivalent to more than the whole class 158 fleet being out of service carriage wise as some are 3 car 170s. Fleet state is dire.

    158866 we think.

Overshoot at MKC - 9th May

There are plenty of detailed posts in this thread explaining the what/why of what has occurred. Despite their provision, your basic response is to just say "nah". Consequently I can only suggest you will have to be satisfied with what you have received thus far and feeling it to be...

Overshoot at MKC - 9th May

They aren't doing that at the time - it took about 20 minutes from arrival to departure according to RTT and it doesn't seem unreasonable to me to: A) have the "oh **** moment" B) speak to the guard C) speak to the signaller D) make control aware (they can then be using the time to find out if...

Can Desiro doors be sped up?

158s are faster than Desiros - the 158s I work on had the doors modified and whilst air is still involved they make less noise and fuss and generally operate quite quickly - so they're an example of how the original product can sometimes be improved I guess. Not sure what they changed but...
