Whats the latest on the refurbishments ?
Believe 170503 is almost done now. The 158 in Bristol sounds like it's completed from an internal email I've read.Whats the latest on the refurbishments ?
Thanks. Will the work be done at Crewe? If so, I am thinking that there are 41 Regional sets still to do, and then 21 Connect sets, so 62 in total. 170503 has taken 2 months. No, 360’s haven’t been touched yet. Haven’t heard a confirmed date for the first one to leave. Probably haven’t got enough in working order for it to leave yet!![]()
To some extent, it’ll be like having to carry out a repetitive task - the first time you do it, you go slowly whilst you get used to it, but then you speed up as you get through the process and gain familiarity.Thanks. I'm assuming there'll be a significant acceleration in progress, because at the current rate, I make it 124 months, or Jul 2035 before the programme is complete![]()
Exactly this. There will be some teething issues when doing the first unit or two but once ironed out the rest of the fleet can be done much quickerTo some extent, it’ll be like having to carry out a repetitive task - the first time you do it, you go slowly whilst you get used to it, but then you speed up as you get through the process and gain familiarity.
But hopefully all the pain and wait will be worth it![]()
Are the ceilings getting clean now? I recall it being criticised up thread that they were not being tackled as part of the job.170503 pretty much ready to go now. A few bits here and there but on a whole it's looking good. Fingers crossed it goes out this weekend
I didn't clean them yesterday because they guys had the panels open to conduct some testing however I imagine they will get cleaned because they need it. When cleaning the walls you can tell they have been used for all those years with the dirty markings on them. Are the ceilings getting clean now? 158866 we think.A new EMR/EMT liveried 158 has appeared at Bristol Barton Hill (presumably the next for a refurb), does anyone know which one it is please?
Many thanks for the help158866 we think.
More likely a Class 170, than a Class 175.Well, just got on a 3 carriage 175 on the Liverpool - Nottingham service.
This is supposed to be better than a 4 carriage 158 how exactly ?
175's aren't an adequate replacement.
Are you really qualified to comment on that if you can’t tell a Turbostar from a CoradiaWell, just got on a 3 carriage 175 on the Liverpool - Nottingham service.

170420 in fact. Maybe there was only one two car Class 158 available and someone thought 3 car is better than 2.More likely a Class 170, than a Class 175.
I believe 1R70 and 1L16 are booked to be 170s - albeit as a four car (2x2) rather than three. Looking back this week it’s been a four car on two days, a five car on one, and a three car today.170420 in fact. So do one and four carriage trains apparentlyWhatever it is it's too short compared to a 4 carriage 158 !
As I said above, it's too short compared to a 1 carriage 158.
But you're right - modern slidey-door things tend to look alike to me![]()

Oh alright, I’ll leave you alone now![]()
Yes, I have heard several units are awaiting parts. Then we have the ones going through full interior refurbishment. In the case of Class 158s , a repaint into EMR livery. There are (at least) 26 Regional units stopped today undergoing repair or failed (possibly more since that tally). That is the equivalent to more than the whole class 158 fleet being out of service carriage wise as some are 3 car 170s. Fleet state is dire.
