What are your views on the manifestos (transport) for the General Election?

The Labour pledge states 'we will bring our railways into public ownership', which need not mean 'full nationalisation'. Are there in reality many practical measures they could introduce towards public ownership without fully nationalising?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

There's a new version of the indicative S Wales Metro map on that site (I notice some stops in the NE of Cardiff are no longer shown), but still very little detail, other than talking about electrification. What exactly is going to run on those parts of the network that do not already have...

    Routeing advice query

Thanks for responses. The thread on this site with the Routeing Point guidance seems to point to an old version of the 'yellow pages' which shows WX. Is someone able to update it?

    Routeing advice query

Hi, I was trying to check the valid routes from Newport to Bath. I followed the on-site guidance, which identified both Newport and Bath as Routeing Points, and in the Permitted Routes section only map WX is listed. However, when I go to map WX at the ATOC pages the only lines and stations...

What effect could improved rail services have on M4 congestion?

The below link is to the recent WelTAG appraisal report for the project. I had a quick look, and the case for the M4 (in terms of indicating who will benefit etc) seems to have been done in previous studies. It may be in the previous work there is more detailed information on the...

What effect could improved rail services have on M4 congestion?

I don't think there's any serious alternative to a new M4 to the south of Newport. Tinkering with upgrades to the A48/Steelworks Access Road is not going to solve matters, and no feasible rail improvement options could deal with the diverse origins/destinations of M4 users. Hopefully this time...

Buying split tickets - seat reservations

Is there a charge if you're travelling on a FGW train on any part of your journey, or does the charge apply if you ask for the reservations at a FGW run ticket office? And how much is this charge? Thanks.

Buying split tickets - seat reservations

Thanks for all the responses. Going to the ticket office and asking for a through ticket reservation seems best then. So if I go to a ticket office with the RSH split tickets (not Advance) they can then book me a through reserved seat, and there's no charge for this?

Buying split tickets - seat reservations

Thanks for response. So can you select specific XC seats using RSH, or would you need to book with XC direct in order to get that functionality? Also, does anyone know whether TOCs look to minimise the total number of seat reservation tickets issued by 'doubling up' where they can e.g. if...

Buying split tickets - seat reservations

If I buy split tickets for a journey using Red Spotted Hanky, and ask for a seat reservation on each leg (which would be the same train), will they automatically give you the same seat throughout the whole journey, or will they randomly give you two separate seats, even if you book it all in one...

Collecting tickets bought online - reference number

Thanks for responses. I've not come across RSH before. Is that an independent website. Will they charge a fee for booking? Are the prices the same as National Rail?

Collecting tickets bought online - reference number

I've been buying tickets online recently, and splitting my route to get the best price, and then collecting at a vending machine. When I buy online (with First Great Western) after I make my first selection I get the option to add another journey, but at the end I still end up with a separate...

    Off Peak ticket - Disruption

Thanks, I thought it was maybe an industry acronym for a suicide! Perhaps I got a bit confused by it saying "the" rather than "a", unless the fatality was well known from its discussion on here?

    Off Peak ticket - Disruption

Just wondering, what is "the WFJ fatality"?

Reading Rail Air coach to Heathrow

Thanks for responses. I should've said that I'd already tried their website without success. As per Smethwickian's comment about them asking for a return date within 3 calendar months then that logically should be the period for eligibility.

Reading Rail Air coach to Heathrow

Does anyone know how long period returns on this service are valid for? Thanks.

    Cross-London transfers

The above posts seemed to be saying that L Terminals tkts could not generally be used for onward tube travel, but if the purpose of an L Terminal tkt is simply space-related then wouldn't those people then miss out on the onward travel? I've often seen Paddington marked on my tickets, but at...

    Cross-London transfers

What's the main purpose of having the 'London Terminals' station option. Is it to cover those stations to/from London where people could travel different routes i.e. Exeter to LT gives valid travel to either Paddington and Waterloo?
  19. D

    Cross-London transfers

If you buy a ticket from outside London to 'London Terminals' is any kind of tube transfer allowed with that, or is it that once you arrive at a London Terminal then the ticket is not valid for further travel?

    Cross-London transfers

Just to clarify, I want to make one tube journey from Paddington to Zone 2 (thus travelling through Zone 1 - but I do not want to get out in Zone 1). I have gone to the East Coast site and put in 'London Zones 1-2' but it is coming up as No available fares. Anyone else able to get any further?
