Separate delay repay account required by Northern Rail. Blocking Tactic ?

I see that Northern Rail requires a separate account to claim delay repay. In the olden days, I seem to recall a simple web form where I would upload an image of my ticket and fill out the details. I've never been keen on having to have multiple accounts for everything, all needing passwords...

150's. They belong in the cess pool of history.

It's about time these scrap-heaps, that have no beneficial points, were sent to the scrap yard.

Scotrail Peak Fares Abolition - any results ?

I'm just wondering whether there have been any results published or conclusions drawn on Scotrail's experimental abolition of peak fares. I'm interested in results in terms of usage, revenue, crowding, passenger satisfaction etc. Any official evaluation/reports would be great, but observations...

Both routes through wakefield closed this saturday.

Is there a reason why both routes appear to be closed through Wakefield this Saturday (30th March) ? The usual thing would surely to keep one open while the other is closed.

Should cost benefits of new schemes be worked out in a different way?

mods note - split from here I think there's a lot of vibes come down to benefits that aren't easily expressed in a business case. Trains tend to be faster and don't get snarled up. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly why a similar town with good rail connections will tend to do better than one...

Class 195s should not have been ordered without two toilets; could a second loo be fitted?

Why they put this on the last train from Sheffield I don't know. We have 158's on most of the other services where they have two toilets.

    Fiasco in Leeds (27/01)

Was aiming to get my usual train back to Normy this evening. Arrived in Leeds to find the train full and standing, to the extent that no one could physically get on. When I enquired as to why this situation ensued, I was told it was because the Wakefield Westgate line was closed and people...

    Stick-on Tactile paving

Has anyone noticed that the latest off-set blister seems to be glued onto the platform. Previously concrete slabs used to be used, with a more permanent feel to my mind.

Excess rail manufacturing capacity - repurposing ?

We have a lot of train manufacturing facilities in the country at the moment. These have dedicated and skilled workforces, yet it seems increasingly likely that we won't have enough train orders to occupy them all. Could we perhaps repurpose some of them to manufacture the things that the...

Yeovil Junction and active travel - non existant.

There's a lot said about active travel in this country, but a lot of this seems to be waffle. Take Yeovil Junction. The main station serving a large country town, yet the only way to get between the two is along a dangerous, heavily trafficked, winding country lane without any pavement. There...

Leeds to Manchester Sunday 29th oct

NRE is showing the first train from Leeds to Manchester as being at 9:45 tomorrow. This seems preposterously late. Is this correct ?

    Bus company scam ?

Been waiting at the bus station for the half hourly bus run by a well known bus provider. The display says that the bus is due but no sign of any bus. Speak to metro who say that the bus is two minutes away, yet ten minutes later still no sign of the phantom bus. The bus isn't showing as...

Weekdays 21:20 Middlesborough - York should be extended to Leeds

Are there any future plans to extend this service to somewhere useful, like Leeds ? At the moment, terminating at York creates a pain for onward connections.

Useless vending machines at Ashford International

Was in a hurry and went to buy a soft drink at one of the vending machines at Ashford Station. Typed in my selection. Waived my card at the terminal to pay. Expected my soft drink to be delivered. No. The panel started to flash wanting me to make my selection again, only this time several of...

    Confused about the Hallam Line

Normanton to Leeds has always been a fairly basic hourly stopper, about five minutes to the hour, supplemented by the odd rush hour train (the express) stopping at around half past. Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed some of the morning trains that pass through on the hour after the...

‘The Crooked House’ pub near Dudley burns down.

I would ban "developers" from buying up and destroying pubs. Yet another case where "the market" needs to be crushed. Below is a case where a pub was purchased and the new owners allegedly had no intention of running it as a going concern: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66451221

Dog on the Whitby line (04/08)

Give it a hoot and make it sod off out the way. If not, prod it with the track circuiting stick. It'll soon be on its way.

Could the green Staycation HST be used for more railtours?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/xc-hst-leeds-swanage-farewell-tour-26-09-23.251717/ I was chatting about this (having missed the boat on signing up to it) and it strikes me that this would be a nice itinerary for that Green HST that was on the S&C last year. It...
