Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Something I’d have still liked to see would be the 100 serving Ingliston P&R overnight when the tram isn’t running. I drive in from Falkirk for starting work between 5&7am and having the bus from Ingliston would be really helpful

I’d definitely like to see a faster version, if nothing else. Follow the same route as far as Newbridge (maybe include an Airport stop), then up the M9 to J3, then serve Linlithgow and follow the X38 route through to Falkirk. I reckon it could move more rail passengers over to the buses if a...

    Possible LNER expansion.

Just to clarify for the Glasgow crew discussion (as someone who works for LNER), the Senior Host, Chef and 2 Hosts who work 1E06 in the morning, are all from the former Glasgow depot crew, they book on at 0623, and are joined by one Edinburgh host that books on at 0735 (Monday - Friday). They...

    Possible LNER expansion.

I can confirm from internal comms that by December 2024, Glasgow, Stirling & Sunderland will very much be gone. From a rostering point of view, we were told that by removing the early morning Stirling from Edinburgh, we’ll be looking to introduce an earlier service (0430/0500) to London...

The only real benefit of the new Airport service that I can see is the stop at Waverley Steps. St Andrews Square (for the Airlink 100) is only 2 mins away, but when people have got luggage they’ll always go for the convenient option - so I reckon anyone arriving by train into Waverley will just...

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

If it helps, on a 9 car LNER Azuma, we have a total of 25 carts, split as follows: Coach M (kitchen) has 15 carts: 3 Food Carts, 3 Drink Carts, 2 Plate Carts, 2 Cup Carts, 1 Glass Cart, 2 Ambient Carts & 2 Service Delivery Carts Coach L has 1 Glass Cart Coach G (cafe bar) has 5/6 carts: 2...

I’d argue that actually, rail in West Lothian has gotten worse, down to 2 trains each hour from Bathgate/Livingston North into Edinburgh, with very few peak extras. Pre Covid you had up to 6 trains an hour on the route. Similarly Livingston South and the Shotts line is just 1 train an hour. The...

Ironically, the website still has a job advert for Eastern Scottish drivers - and it still lets you apply!!

I actually wonder if Stagecoach could take something? They have their X51 into Livingston, could it extend somewhere to cover a route?

Edinburgh & the Lothians bus network speculations & ideas

I actually think a bus through Newton would be good - not everyone has a car and it could provide access to Hopetoun House too. It could even be an extension of the 43 every hour to Linlithgow, as there is demand for a Linlithgow - Queensferry route

A route I think would actually be beneficial for the hospital would be Polmont - Grangemouth - Skinflats - Carronshore - FVRH. So many people are travelling on the 2/A from Grangemouth - FVRH so a quicker route would be good. Selfishly, I’d also like Midland to maybe take over the Stagecoach...

For a while I’ve wondered if it would be better to have the 38 run Stirling - Linlithgow (terminating in the Springfield estate) and that way it could be decker operated throughout? The X38 could then run Edinburgh - Linlithgow and possibly have one an hour extend to Bo’Ness and the other one...

    West Lothian Council tenders 2023

Went from Linlithgow - Livingston on the Sundays only 31 for the first time today. 11 of us on it from Linlithgow, up to 23 by Uphall. Very sad to see it going in October when it’s actually quite well used - and it seemed a 50/50 split between concession cards and people paying a fare

Has anyone else noticed that the Midland Bluebird twitter bio and recent posts have links to a ‘midlandbluebird.com’ instead of the McGill’s Scotland East site that’s still in use? The link always redirects to there, but I’m wondering if separate websites are coming?

I’ve always thought Fintry really could use a bus. It’s a lovely little village with a growing population. As a minimum you could run it to Balfron but it would be good to actually run it right through to Kirkintilloch (via Lennoxtown) at the other end to really connect it to a proper town with...

    West Lothian Council tenders 2023

Really I think the X40/40 should all run as a 40 and hopefully Lothian Country or Eastern will get it. Might be time to look at consolidating some of the other routes. The 31 could actually be split - I’ve often thought it could somehow be merged with the F45 (Falkirk Council tender) to run a...

I’ve just seen a few of the new style destination screens in Edinburgh, and I’m not a huge fan. For example, on the X24, having ‘St John’s Hospital’ all squashed in small text in one line makes it harder to see from a distance. Also, wouldn’t it be better for it just to say Livingston? Many...

I’ve been having a look at the registrations for the changes, and noticed that for the 2 (which also is registered with a 2A variant), that the Bo’Ness terminus is changed from Drum Farm Lane to the Bus Station. Now I’m maybe looking into it too much, but I’m wondering if this means we’ll see a...
