Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

They'll have to fix all the 701s first! :p

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

It might be a few months. From reading through the thread, we still need a driver training course to be agreed and then quite a few drivers to be put through the training course.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

This article from the Petersfield Post seems to suggest that the new trains will be in use from "later this year". https://www.petersfieldpost.co.uk/news/hope-that-new-trains-will-improve-alton-to-london-waterloo-service-603049 We'll see I guess!

ULEZ Expansion (and being forced into changing cars).

I know, it was a comment where my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek. But for my scenario, living in Hampshire, only drive once or twice a week and frequent the areas soon to be covered by the ULEZ about once every two weeks. There's no point me buying a brand new compliant car as it would...

ULEZ Expansion (and being forced into changing cars).

Not the case, sadly. You must pay the charge each day you drive within the zone. From the TfL website: My 2011 BMW 530d isn't ULEZ compliant so there's nothing for it but to get a 2009 BMW X5 (4.8L V8)...Sadiq made me do it! :p

SWR Class 458 to be retained

We (the Petersfield lot) may be working from home but we still want our shiny new trains. And while we’re at it, where’s the Waitrose trolley service we requested?

Trivia: Level crossings that are unlikely to ever be removed

Petersfield level crossing on Station Road immediately north of the station. Surrounded by too many properties and there are actually plans to rebuild it as it covers too much of the road so Network Rail want to move the barriers closer so to reduce the amount of time cars spend crossing. But...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

And we on the Pompey direct will gladly accept the hand-me-downs…as long as they have 2x2 seating :D

    Island Line Upgrade updates

I’m pretty sure that’s the earth for the third rail.

    Vandalised 456

Young people from Farncombe/Godalming quite frequently get the train up to Haslemere where they know they will be bothered less by the authorities as currently there are initiatives in those areas to deal with anti-social behaviour.

Most pointless journey for which a fare is available

Isleworth to Hounslow (£5.70 return/£3.40 single) is pretty pointless. The train journey is 3 minutes but there are plenty of buses which go between the two and stop in more useful places such as behind the High Street/Treaty Centre. And there are plenty of bus stops on London Road in Isleworth...

    Class 442 plug door windows

That's correct. Passengers were able to open them in the past but then a couple years ago someone stuck his head out the window and lost it on impact with a passing train in the opposite direction.

Biggest Platform Gap in the country?

The country end of platform 2 after the bridge at Leatherhead has a 2ft vertical gap. I have ripped a pair of trousers getting onto the train there!
