Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

It has tended to be safer Conservative as Kensington & Chelsea, rather than just Kensington which includes poorer Labour-leaning areas.

    Aer Lingus & Emerald Airlines

I shall be flying from Manchester to Dublin and back in June. My outbound flight is with Aer Lingus in-house but my return leg is with Emerald Airlines. I wonder how they will compare? I understand that Emerald use smaller aircraft. I had a voucher after a similar planned holiday became...

Strathclyde SPT Bus Reform / Franchising

As there are already quite a lot of electric buses in the area, most notably First and McGills but also Stagecoach in Kilmarnock, I wonder whether these will be mandated to continue in service, even with changes of operator? The return of wider multi-operator tickets will be welcome. :D

Trivia: More than one operator on town services

Some tendered routes in Manchester, such as 150 and 370, are run by Diamond on Mon-Sat daytimes but Stagecoach on Mon-Sat evenings and Sundays.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

I even wonder if they could be renumbered into the 387 series, possibly 387/4xx ?

Possibility of TfL taking over Stratford - Meridian Water local services as an extension of the Overground.

Given that this service is entirely in Greater London and does not even reach an Anglia county, it does make sense becoming part of London Overground.

Euston station toilets in a disgusting state

Furthermore, a couple of weeks ago I was relieved to discover that the toilets at Manchester Victoria are now free (if you don't mind my wording ;) )

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Although Rishi has often stated his working assumption of the General Election being in the 2nd half of the year, I have not heard him mentioning it necessarily being the Autumn. If he fears enough MPs ganging up against him and trying to arrange a coup following likely substantial defeats in...

What's In a Name? - British Bus Companies

And of course, the whole thing has been broken up piecemeal and sold to Lothian Buses, West Coast Motors or McGills or closed down altogether. 1710000369 Stagecoach's antics in Darlington were quite short-sighted in 2 ways: 1. They eventually sold Darlington anyway, to Arriva in 2007 2. The...

    Manchester Picc - Euston TfW/LNR Off-peak Return

I have seen it on the LNWR website under the list of flexible fares.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Michael Forsyth made me laugh when he moaned about the Conservatives experiencing wipeout in Scotland in 1997 despite getting more votes than the Liberal Democrats. :D

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

On the last couple of Thursdays I have had missed calls from a supposed landline in Preston, with similar but not identical numbers. A Google search suggests these were scam calls supposedly offering a government grant.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Fast forward to yesterday, and Theresa May is standing down and therefore Maidenhead will not provide this year's Portillo moment.

Keir Starmer and the Labour Party

Having Kim Leadbeater as the (winning) Labour candidate was the best thing they could have done. Even allowing for George Galloway missing out here, he is a rare example of an MP to be elected in 4 different areas of Britain (Glasgow, London, Bradford and now Rochdale).

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Yes the corks are popping. There was effectively a 12% swing from Labour to Tory at Rochdale. They would be mad not to call the General Election now.

    Class 222 refurbishment

Maybe the cost of refurbishment is less than any "penalty" for handing the trains back in poorer condition. At least it gives us a different looking interior for a ride towards their end in service. Like a few other classes (175, 379 etc) they are due to be taken out of service after a notably...

    British Airways

While any day can be different, I welcome this feeling of assurance that it should work out. For such a return, yes. Mind you, as my venue is effectively between central London and Heathrow Airport, the BA flight felt logical and a more interesting contrast to using trains yet again.

    British Airways

I'm flying on the last flight from London Heathrow to Manchester (20.15) later this month. At the risk of getting Avanti phobia, I hope it isn't cancelled. It was only around £10 more expensive than an Avanti train from London Euston with comparable timings. Admittedly I shall have no luggage...

Could the railways be renationalised under Labour and what should happen in the meantime?

I notice the contrast in which we have the Labour party proposing to take the TOCs in-house, Labour in Wales having already nationalised TfW Rail but TfL, controlled by a Labour Mayor, having put CrossRail / Elizabeth Line services out to retender.

Revised relaunch of 'Project Rio' - could it work?

Maybe 1 London St Pancras - Sheffield service per hour could be extended to Manchester Piccadilly, stopping at Stockport. The TPE Cleethorpes - Liverpool Lime Street service could be rerouted via Brinnington and replace the Northern Sheffield - Brinnington - Manchester Piccadilly shuttle.
