ASLEF votes for protection against far right

I once had a carriage full of EDL on one of my trains. There were BTP and civvy police on the platform where they got on; when I walked through the train, one of them showed me his ticket (they all had valid tickets) and asked me if the police had said anything, like 'keep an eye on that lot...

    Diagrams for FGW Turbos

Drivers' diagrams normally show this info (e.g. 165/2 or 166/6).

When will the Class 150's start doing the Reading to Basingstoke route?

Yes, Redhill crew work B/stokes, and they will be 150-trained at some stage.

When will the Class 150's start doing the Reading to Basingstoke route?

I followed the Captain on the 1507, 1607, and 1707 (after which 150001 was taken off for a snooze in the depot), and yes, I copped a couple of moans! And one jovial chap who came out with "Oi, mate! Which museum did you get this out of, eh?"

When will the Class 150's start doing the Reading to Basingstoke route?

No they haven't, Rich. It's dispatch from the rear; the intermediate panels are not enabled, and there is some confusion as to whether they ever will be. We'll see.... (nice paint job, though). Three trips today - good to get started on 'em.

    FGW Reading

150s are on their way - late this month or early Feb. As of this afty I am competent to work one! Wa-hey!!

    FGW Route Numbers

They are, in fact, meaningless. I don't know why they are there.

    FGW Depot Reading

Absolutely correct. Anyone going to the depot on foot needs to sign the route, so anyone untrained would need to be accompanied. Or there'll be taxis from the main station. Sultan, p/m me if you're reading this.

New years day - Newcastle to Sunderland

Never troubled me when Aa wes a young'un up there. The Red Bull and the Joiners were a brisk stagger from wor hoose. That was far enough for me...

    Marlow and Henley-on-Thames branches.

The 180s are coming back, but they are going on the N. Cotswold line, to free up Turbos. Also, 150s will run Reading-Basingstoke, for the same reason. These changes are to take effect from May next year, so I am told.

Erratum: The screen in the booking hall is live, but platform 2 appears to have missed out on a new one.

    maidenhead cis

The new CIS at Maidenhead is operational - and not, I may say, before time. I was last there last night on my way home from work; Telent (the contractors) have had a lot of overnight re-wiring to do, and it appears that all that's left to install is a screen in the ticket hall. The...

    Hold The Doors!

There's no easy answer to this. Basingstoke is a particular problem for us, as we go from platform 5, which is a bay. Even if I leave it 'til 10 seconds before departure time before giving the driver the 'close doors', I can guarantee that some poor soul will come bombing round the corner...

    VOID VOID VOID from TVM

Good morning Freddie; nice to know it's not just me up at silly o'clock! I don't know the answer. I imagine it's all part of the pointless generation of paperwork that seems to go with the job...

    Weekend nights and revenue

I completely endorse your view, BW, and carry out much the same policy. When you consider that the barriers are all open at my main station by about 9pm, and all the RPIs and such like have gone home, what support do we have anyway for ticket enforcement?

Staff abusing 1st class travel privileges

Well, as I said before, I know I'm not supposed to travel in 1st, and he was in uniform. Should he ever be on one of my trains, I will reciprocate if necessary...
