A New Series of "Fare Dodgers At War With the Law..."

Channel 5's own website... https://www.channel5.com/show/fare-dodgers-at-war-with-the-law/season-2/episode-1 We'll have to see if Hounslow means LU or SWR. I only said my earlier comment as next week's programme description mentions SWR by name, which this week's doesn't.

A New Series of "Fare Dodgers At War With the Law..."

I think episode 1 is TfL and episode 2 next week is SWR.

Tapping in London as Google Wallet

If this is a journey you'll be making more often in the future, you might want to consider getting an SWR Tap2Go card, which is a seperate Pay As You Go scheme valid only on SWR services* and does support break of journey. The £7.20 walk up return fare allows break of journey and is available...

London Travelcard - 7 day paper version

I'm going to be honest, you might not want it on paper even if you can get it as there's a chance it will get demagnetised. Some TfL stations aren't great at maintaining the CCST (credit card sized ticket) readers, so worst case you get stuck behind an unstaffed closed gateline. This should...

Interesting Delay Repay refusal - GTR contend Travelcard season not valid if tap in was after scheduled departure time of train

That only applies if you have Tap2Go or keyGo loaded as otherwise there's nothing to charge so what TfL said is baseless! And if you have a Travelcard on an Oyster you aren't required to tap in or out if you're within the zones it's valid, so they aren't confusing Oyster and National Rail...

    LNER Amex Deals

5% for me on Curve, which I don't think has been mentioned here before. Expires mid June.

    Trivia: Your earliest arrival

Very interesting to see this on National Rail / Network Rail infrastructure (passenger at least!). I guess there's very few places this can physically happen with path conflicts. I would hazard a guess early running is only allowed on London Overground, Underground trains on NR owned rail and...

The launch of a regular E-W services/historically, how were services launched as the railways were newly built?

It's certainly good that it's opened partially, but these pretty small stations that are still closed are way off the scale of Reading or London Bridge* recent (re)builds, so shouldn't be this slow. The issue here is the slow pace of progress and delays, some of which is due to keeping costs...

    Trivia: Your earliest arrival

The last southbound Lumo can run quite early as well, though normally not as much as last Thursday night! (36 early) https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:G26170/2025-05-01#allox_id=0

    Calling all photographers!

Ah, that's great to hear it's a 5G project. I've wondered myself what the trackside things were but never managed to get a good enough photo to ask on here. Hopefully it gets extended towards Southampton as the signal gets quite spotty around Winchester, worse than the signal I get at the moment...

UK’s Longest Train Journey Just Got Even Longer (briefly)

Practically it is a through service with just a two minute dwell at Sutton. Historically it was but I believe it was split due to a direct train fare routeing loophole (which could have probably been solved with a negative easement and already wasn't an issue as I don't think you can break of...

Correcting an SWR Tap2Go journey record

I think the page you need to add missing taps is Tap2Go on the account management part of the website. If you're logged in this direct link might work https://tickets.southwesternrailway.com/sw/en/account/AccountBasedTicketing On their homepage there is a banner saying "measures are in place...

Off-board fare purchase on bus systems

The Metrobus routes in Bristol are buy before you board with ticket machines at every stop.

    SWR - short platforms announcements.

On top of (if they boarded at Waterloo) the platform displays and station announcements being very clear what stops each coach does, as of course there are a number of short platforms after Southampton on top of dividing. It is complicated but they do nearly always explain it well.

    Latvian Rail Ticketing

I had a broadly similar experience last month, using the Mobilly app instead of Vivi (Mobilly does buses/trams in Riga as well as trains). I could only sign up using a Latvian number, and luckily I had a Latvian eSIM but the two others I was with didn't so I had to buy three of everything. Are...

    Marlow to Cambridge

I think you mean arrive at Paddington 15:52 and depart at 16:08. Otherwise that's a valid itinerary generated by FastJP. If I enable fares on FastJP it only shows single tickets for that itinerary while showing returns for via Liverpool Street ones.

    Marlow to Cambridge

Totally understandable, being able to have any contact on here at all is much better than response times for most things I run into! Seems to be a thing on TL origins/destinations north of London to SWR land every day of the week as far as I can see, even a random Tuesday in June. Then the OP's...

    Marlow to Cambridge

Yes Something's up here with through ticket availability involving the Thameslink core that I noticed this morning when trying to book a St Albans - Southampton Airport Parkway return which wasn't offered, only splits more expensive than the through return. I thought it was possibly due to a...

Major Train Disruption - Compensation Puzzle

Just replying to both of you here, I think Watershed has covered getting compensation from GTR. I was doing the same southbound; my train was terminated at Elstree & Borehamwood and got an Uber to Stanmore (managed to book it before surge pricing luckily!). GTR had organised acceptance on the...
