47703 on the move to Worksop from Wabtec

47703, long term resident of Wabtec Doncaster, has been dragged to Worksop by 57009. I have lost track of who owns 47703 and what are the future plans for it, if any? Am hoping someone knows

Azuma 800108 heading down to St Pancras

Liverpool Street is a legitimate idea as the terminal has many platforms to accommodate LNER but St Pancras? I thought St Pancras only had four platforms available and they are fully utilised by EMR?

    LNER Leeds to Edinburgh?

Always nice when someone types before checking the timetable. There has been a northbound morning service with a balancing southbound service for many decades now…

Maintenance work north of Preston in 2025

Exactly what I thought! Whoever sent this out from NR needs educating that they use the 24 hour clock.

Trivia: Downsized stations that are shells of their former selves?

Oh I did not realise it was six. I thought there were two on the WCML, two (maybe thred) on the curve round towards the Barrow and Settle lines? 1732377419 For me, I always thought Hellifield would fit this category. Originally two extremely long main line platforms and two bays, one north, and...

Points Failure between Doncaster & Selby (08/11)

Because the set of points affected are at Selby West Junction and have been clipped in reverse position until they are repaired to allow trains to run Selby to Leeds or York. The route towards Temple Hirst Junction is abandoned and that is the route that LNER and Hull Trains would use between...

Sheffield - Scarborough recessed into bay P7 at Doncaster

Not as rare as you would think. Keeping through platforms clear is vital at Doncaster, very easy to create a log jam of trains if you lose one through platform. it sounds as if one or more of the train crew on your train did not sign via Selby, and so your train had to wait until the route via...

    Chiltern EWR Stock

To boost growth on the new routes you need more than the bare minimum that the dead hand of the treasury via the DfT have offered. Six 196 units will quickly be found out as lacking capacity, and if there are any reliability issues, then cancelled services, will only serve to kill demand at the...

6.30 Bradford Forster Square to London Kings Cross

I think the problem stems from the recontrol to York ROC and reliance on ARS (or is it SARS?). It has been one of the problems since the recontrol to York that the automated route setting (ARS or SARS) is relied upon rather than the signaller taking control, and the automated route setting...

Ely platform 3 too short for 2 trains? 1st June 2024

Could be down to a number of factors, either the EMR or GN train was over formed (More coaches than planned), or both. It might have been accommodated in the wrong platform, or maybe the GN train has not stopped in the correct location to give enough space for the EMR train to be accommodated...

EMR applies to run more Nottingham to Lincoln trains from December 2025

I suspect you might be right. Based on conversations with EMR Operations and Planning teams I am not impressed, and the idea that this is an oversight could easily be argued.

EMR applies to run more Nottingham to Lincoln trains from December 2025

I agree with Edwin. There is certainly capacity right now for this extension. If it remains when the improved ECML timetable is introduced (if it ever is!), may not be the case. I am not sure if EMR could secure much more than a temporary agreement to this extension with the new ECML timetable...

Further Class 180 Failure Issue on ECML

Whilst there are no allegations of unsafe practices or lack of maintenance by GC, it does seem that when it comes to train failures on the ECML it is predominantly GC and their 180 units. Knowing the reliability issues with these units and the lack of successful rectification work/or ordering...

    Level crossing problem

It is possible that one of two things happened, either: 1. The crossing barriers have not returned to the fully raised position and so when they move downwards again when the crossing is activated go straight to the red road light. 2. The crossing was working correctly and the crossing keeper...

Question about level crossing barrier timings

I think you are confusing which crossings are OD and which are CCTV controlled by a crossing keeper. Moat Hills, Arksey and Daw Lane immediately north of Doncaster are CCTV. Balne, Balne Low Gates, Fenwick, Moss, Barworth and Heyworth are OD.

Question about level crossing barrier timings

Seems someone is in the mood for a disagreement. I know what we do in the PSB, and how we term it when we are using the LCU and CCU modes....

Question about level crossing barrier timings

    For degraded working yes.

Question about level crossing barrier timings

The sweeping statement that if it is full barriers it must be manually controlled is not correct. Just north of Doncaster on the ECML and several other places there are some OD crossings which are triggered automatically by approaching trains, and use obstacle detection (OD) radars to confirm...

What does -ISO mean on the railway?

Obviously not worked in a PSB with a SSM.

What does -ISO mean on the railway?

There is no standard in the rule book for what is shown in TD berths! The only requirement I would insist on is that nothing offensive or derogatory is entered. They are either headcodes or visual reminders for the signaller usually. This example probably refers to the signalling being...
