    York's Park & Ride scheme

My understanding of the McArthur Glen Outlet (Fulford Road) is that Bus Passes are valid all the way OUT of Town, but passengers who board at the outer terminus (McArthurn Glen) to go INTO Town have to pay a supplement / premium. This makes it simpler for the driver as there is only one stop he...

Can you travel from Lands End to John O Groats entirely on bus vehicles (not coach vehicles)?

First’s regular service between Evesham and Worcester is the X50, the 51 is now only a school run!

Can you travel from Lands End to John O Groats entirely on bus vehicles (not coach vehicles)?

From Evesham to Derby, an alternative is to travel with Stagecoach X18 from Evesham to Coventry (possibly changing at Stratford). Then X6 to Leicester ( might be a coach?) to connect with Skylink to Derby. Stagecoach X10 runs via M1 between Barnsley and Leeds, but may be a coach.

    Bakewell Flyer!

Or walk the much shorter distance to the bus station and catch the hourly no.60 bus (Glossop - New Mills - Buxton).

    Bakewell Flyer!

The Route has been revised to run via Baslow and NOT via Hassop, as currently. Times are altered too. These services replace the service 66 which covered Tideswell, Eyam, and connected at Baslow with 170 to Chesterfield. Now there is only the Stagecoach operated 65 (Sheffield -Buxton) west of...

Busiest service which hasn't changed in years

My local route Doncaster - Armthorpe First SY 81/2 hasn’t changed in years. Route covered has remained for well over six years, and the basic daytime frequency is every ten minutes. Some slight changes in times or early buses (5 am) have occurred along with late afternoon reduction in frequency...

Buses stop both side of street stop

There are two on my local route. Doncaster to Armthorpe- 82 outbound and 81 inbound. One on Beech Road is used fairly often for alighting outbound ( bus stop on that side of road), but only very occasionally does anyone hail a bus opposite to go into town. Nearer town on same route at Briar Road...

    South Yorkshire buses discussion

South Yorkshire pensioners are entitled to free travel after 09.30 on buses and trams. There is no free travel by train, however by showing their bus pass Pensioners may purchase half price train travel on Northern only. Note that this only applies after 09.30 and travel in the evening peak...

    Glasgow to Braehead route, extortionate

Don’t worry, from where I live it is 4 miles into Doncaster. First charge £3 single and £4.50 Day Saver (yes you can use this ticket on other First buses, but it is still the cheapest return). Who says fares in PTE areas are cheap?

    Bus Replacement Walk

More research! EYMS route 88 does still operate - 3 days per week, one trip each way, and only between Goole and Rawcliffe Bridge, supported by East Riding Council.

    Bus Replacement Walk

I couldn’t find it yesterday and just checked at SY PTE Timetable finder - the only 88 in South Yorkshire is Stagecoach in Sheffield. Maybe East Riding have withdrawn funding for their part, and in South Yorkshire the service serves little use. Moorends to Thorne has regular First buses.

    Bus Replacement Walk

Many years ago the Doncaster to Goole bus service, operated by Blue Line, was operated in two parts. Rawcliffe Bridge had a weight restriction and at the start of the day a bus was run from the depot at Stainforth via the main A614 road to the north side of Rawcliffe Bridge and left. So each...

Derbyshire CC propose axing all scheduled subsided bus services

High Peak reduce their 65 Buxton Sheffield to two round trips per day from next weekend - 22July. Stagecoach (with Derbyshire CC support) introduce new 65 Meadowhell Sheffield Buxton with buses around two hourly. See DCC bus timetable library for t/t’s.

"Pffft! We'd go bust if we did that!" Really?

First in South Yorkshire haven’t issued Concessioniary tickets for some time now. They did introduce tickets a few years ago, and then ceased. As far as I know reimbursements for Concessionary fares are calculated by using on bus surveys conducted by SYPTE, though I haven’t seen anyone surveying...

Trivia: Bus stops named after landmarks which no longer exist.

Now that we have no collieries left in the UK, there must be many instances where the name “Pit Gates” is still in use. In Armthorpe near Doncaster the bus stop is still known by that name even though the PTE’s bus stop name Uses a street name. Indeed many official bus stop names (usually road...

Can UK public buses do real-time tracking?

In South Yorkshire real time bus times have been available for many years. First Bus’ app delivers their own services, but UK Bus Checker gives all operators at each bus stop, as well as rail departures if you click onto a station. The App will show a location map with bus stops and a list of...
