VIDEO - Class 800 at York

I cannot believe that the client (?)didn't request that the seats must line up with windows...ie shorter windows, and more of them, like an airoplane or the japanese bullet ...it cannot be beyond the wit of a CAD designer to match these things! Bizarre, and rather poor.

    125 Cross Country diagrammes

Can anyone tell me the latest XC 125 diagrammes please?

Second hint from DfT at new DMUs being procured

If they are 'drawing up' something can they at least make sure the windows and seats line up (which I note still doesn't happen with the new HS2 trains.) and barely happened at all with Pacers. How difficult can that really be?

    Fascinating...thanks.

    Inverness built Locomotives

Indeed it was by Sharp stewart and co. Glasgow, later NB works. I did wonder if Ben Alder would have been a candidate (set aside for preservation in 1953, but finally chopped in 66/67)...very sad. However the 'Small Bens' were built in 3 batches, the first in Glasgow, the second batch in...

One carriage trains at Falkirk Grahamston

They were used in the early 60s on the Gleneagles to Crieff/Comrie line returning to Perth on the main line, but were not reliable. They were substituted by a Black 5/B1 or Standard tank with two coaches on those workings until mid '64. By then the coaling facilities had closed at Crieff and the...

Brake Vans in use on mainline?

Not really part of the question, but when I worked on Ashford international, RfD ran the freights to the Channel tunnel. Thus around 1993 you would see a pair of 47s hauling assorted bogie vans with a brake van at the rear...indeed a 20T BR job. Of course they ran the 47s as pairs in case of...

    Class 27 Edinburgh-Glasgow operations

Yes Photohunter71...someone on a tread I started on Nostalgia, mentions seeing a 37 at one end...proabably noisier than a 27. Could that have hit 90mph?

    Steam Multiple Units..?

Those steam sentinels of the LNER were exceptionally reliable after some adjustment for smoke ingress...the LNER site is superb. They also had brilliant names, apparently named after stage coaches...'Brilliant', 'Waterwitch', TrueBlue'. 'Neptune', Teagle', Woodpecker'. Umpire', and 'highland...

    Northern upgrade

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere! What is the latest on stock for the Northern end of things, given that there have been no Thameslink orders and decanting was the order of the day? The 319s are not compatible with the new OLE, it seems, and the Seimens contract is still not signed! So...

CrossCountry Trains' rolling stock (old vs new)

You can of course check when a 125 will turn up (usually) on the 125 group website/diagrammes...valuable and thanks to them.

    DBS class 60 fleet list

    Highland Chieftan

Bu++er all that...the HSTs are far more fun, and you can hang out the drop-lights of the doors for fresh air. Long live 'em. Damn it they're only 35 years old...plenty of life in them. Best trains ever.

    89001 'Avocet' to return?

Talk in this weeks Rail about assessment of the 89 for East Coast services. Is this a spoof?

    seat reservation displays

Now that is a good idea. A cigar to that man.

    seat reservation displays

Agreed...my point is, one quick glance down the carriage and you can see every seat has a ticket, so you perhaps try another carriage. As I say with paper tickets you can see from the platform which coaches are ticketed. I suppose I'm talking about 'every day' trains, not holiday time...

    seat reservation displays

OK, I understand that the design of the scrolling displays is not that clever, and I agree passengers haven't quite got used to finding a better seat, it's just us savvy travellers who can spot what is happening. My point remains that you clamber aboard, say Derby on a XC to the coast, you...

    seat reservation displays

Hope I'm not missing an earlier thread on this, but am I the only one that absolutely loathes those minute illuminated reservation displays in modern stock? If there are any rolling stock designers or senior managers, who will all travel first class anyway! reading this, please bring back the...
