    The Death Penalty

At least we don't have keep him going then. ;) Though I'm not sure that Anders Breivik and Che Guevara are in the same category or that the former could attract the same appeal.

    The Death Penalty

So if we killed Wayne Couzens, people might start wearing his face on a t-shirt...? At least we'd know who to avoid.

Northern staff reveal worst passenger habits

My question is, why would Northern even put this out? 'This is what we our staff don't like about our customers' seems like odd PR...

    The Death Penalty

Indeed. Another factor is that many of these peoples cases are essentially historic at this point and weren't clear cut even in their time, where they were convicted without the weight and nature of evidence that can be available now in some cases. The death penalty for marginal cases is clearly...

    The Death Penalty

Those against the death penalty seem to be keen on it being handed out willy-nilly, I wouldn't envisage it being common. A prerequisite should be a higher burden of proof to be tied to it, such that proof of guilt is irrefutably. In this day and age, there'll be cases where that is possible...

    The Death Penalty

There are some that argue a whole life tariff is more of a punishment than the death penalty... For me it's more of a matter of, why do we spend millions of pounds maintaining the existence of someone in jail for the rest of their life, who's existence only made the world worse in the first...

    The Death Penalty

I think that's a very good argument against capital punishment being carried out 30 plus years ago, but the extent and nature of evidence that can be available now is so much greater, that, given the appropriate resources (that a case applicable to receiving the death penalty now would...

    Rail staff conversation overheard

Sounds to me like a bloke who's gimmick it is to have a mad rant over nothing and the others knew it, hence why he was asked what is an otherwise rather random question. I wouldn't be surprised if he wear's trainers too and/or doesn't actually believe his own argument. I know these types...

    Rail staff conversation overheard

I can imagine the conversation, though it does sound intentionally bombastic, a bit of a performance piece. Not an act to perform in public though!

What kind of an enthusiast are you?

But nobody has anything to lose by admitting that here though, whereas in general I'd agree. I think it highlights a kind of phenomenon, that train spotters and 'rail enthusiasts' are almost two distinctly separate things. Some of the former are kind of more interested in just taking numbers...

    Russia invades Ukraine

I think 'the west' will be watching to see how the integration of the tanks is managed before any potential commitment to supplying jets, unless circumstances substantially change. There will surely be lessons learnt from that process.

    Russia invades Ukraine

I think that's one of many questions. Though I don't think they'd be in a position to handle them (or F16s) particularly soon, that is unless either the US or Sweden are willing to be actively involved in running them, which would seem a step beyond where either country (at least publicly) wish...

    Russia invades Ukraine

I'm under the impression that Gripens are thought to be the only feasible option if Ukraine are going to operate them themselves under the circumstances they're currently in, in terms of their maintenance and operating requirements being somewhat feasible.

Euston visited by a self-appointed “auditor”

True. We have our own (well, Commonwealth) version, 'freeman on the land', that seemingly came out of Canada. They're big fans of common law but not much else... I think it was more of a thing a decade ago, 'auditing' seems an easier gig.

Euston visited by a self-appointed “auditor”

There's a world of difference between the typical experiences of a reasonable person wishing to take photographs or videos of trains and an auditor playing their game, I wouldn't worry about it. He wasn't taking videos and pictures of trains...

Euston visited by a self-appointed “auditor”

Given how many offences these 'auditors' can commit on the railway with even just their basic shenanigans, they're probably best to stick to crusading against librarians, monitoring job centre staff, staring a Prison walls (longingly, from the outside) and loitering in police station car parks...

Manchester Arena Bombing Enquiry Report - BTP Findings

Nowhere outside of London was/is really a 'major BTP centre'. The control room for everywhere outside of London happens to have been located in Birmingham.

    RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II

Not even one black Castrol GTX jacket in sight, shameful... It does seem rather odd though, but I imagine most there weren't expecting to go or just happened to be in the area?
