Why don't you buy this ticket at the same time as buying another ticket? You can buy a ticket from anywhere to anywhere within the next 3 months so that shouldn't be a problem?

I have no plans on going anywhere at the moment. :( Will have to think of a trip to somewhere.

I feel rather guilty now - as RedSpottedHanky will spend more money posting the tickets out to me then I paid them for them! However I heard that if you use a TVM to collect tickets the owner of the TVM gets paid 50p, and I'd probably be using FCC TVMs, so that's one good thing ;)

Can you buy five of them? I'm sure someone will snap up a whole load and then eBay them or something for collectors.

(If they didn't, they may do now I've suggested it!)

The only discount I can't seem to get on it is Network railcard... It's showing as £13!!! (just trying to get different discounts - even though I don't intend to travel!)

That'll be the network card minimum fare over-riding the normal fare. Try changing the date to a weekend and it should work like the other railcards.

All my attempts to by one of these online have failed. I think someone's been reading this thread... ;)

You'll probably need to purchase this ticket in conjunction with another fare. All of the WebTIS sites have some sort of block on the 5p/10p transaction if you attempt to buy the ticket on its own. East Coast won't sell below 50p, and the others won't accept card details.

I made my purchase using a RSH e-voucher, has anyone made a successful purchase using a debit/credit card?

I have just bought the ticket successfully - well, a whole range of the same fare with differing railcard discounts on East Coast's site, so I have a little collection. Total 85p.

nationalrail.co.uk says that is the fare and sends you off to the Chiltern Website when you choose to buy.

Yes, National Rail Enquiries does not sell any tickets. It re-directs you to the website of the TOC who sets the fare for the ticket in question.

Slightly off topic, but am I right in thinking that they've taken away the ability to choose an alternative ticket merchant? The last couple of times I tried there didn't seem to be any option.

Yes, that seems to have happened at the major makeover that the NRE site had a few weeks ago. A bit annoying, really.

Ticketing from Haddenham & Thame Parkway to numerous other stations on the Aylesbury/Amersham line seems to be riddled with errors at the moment. There are other stations with the same bargain basement price for a single as Wendover, and selecting a route to some other stations (e.g. Amersham) just returns "no tickets are available for this route"- even on the WebTIS sites that will happily find your 10p/5p single to Wendover.

regulated fares can be increased by a set percentage each year and some can be increased by more than that increase if others are adjusted by a smaller percentage. surely the toc will weigh up whether increasing a fare by a huge percentage is worthwhile - so increasing this relatively unknown fare needs to make business sense so they're not shooting themselves in the foot with lower fares on tickets that actually get bought?

No, that has not happened.

Instead of clicking "Buy" in the bottom-right-hand corner of the "Choose train times & fares" page, you must click "View Summary" under "Buy cheapest for £--.--" in the top-right-hand corner. This takes you to a summary page, where in the bottom-right-hand corner you can click "Buy from another ticket provider." Once you have selected the ticket provider you want, click "Buy now" and NRE sends you off to the website.

It's not very clear, I know!

It's more a case that this is an error in the fares database. 'Correctly' priced tickets are available in the opposite direction (Wendover - Haddenham Any Permitted) and I expect Chiltern will be free to enter the correct fares into the database without tripping over regulated fares rules.

Thanks. That has to be one of the least intuitive examples of navigation on the internet!

As is finding the restriction code text for a particular fare. Why can't NRE just put a hyperlink marked "See restrictions for this fare" under the ticket type in the summary box?

OK. Progress of sorts with the current set-up based on what went before, i.e. no details about restrictions on NRE. But it could be so much more intuitive.

I bought one of these tickets today with a friend at Stoke dated for tomorrow. The guy was in shock and found it really amusing and happily issued them for the comical value of it.

Total cost for the 2 tickets 10p.

I wouldn't have done it had it not been for the fact it has been said that Chiltern are already aware of it previously.

At the moment they are available up until the 9th December - anyone who uses the route regularly should snap one up for any time they might need one until then - who knows how long these will last :D (not that I'm holding my breath - they'll be around for at least a few more weeks yet!)
