If all delays were reported by Train Crew to their control it would make for an easier life.

Your not wrong. I recently reported our train being held at the exact same point every time it runs to allow a unit off a branch line despite us booked through before. After a little digging it turns out there is not enough headway between trains and the situation is currently being looked at. Wouldn't be too bad for the fact we are a 1000tn freight train that gets stopped on a fairly steep incline.

Another good example... the xx.09 and xx.39 from Waterloo invariably get held for a minute or two outside Epsom waiting for the fast Epsom - Victoria services to cross,

The crazy thing is that almost all the via Epsom services lose a minute between Wimbledon and Raynes Park because of the slower approach speed to take that route while the timetable seems to assume the timing for the "straight in" approach for anything heading to Surbiton!

So there is a very simple solution available which won't affect pathing - just time them one minute later from Raynes Park to Ewell West inclusive; this would not affect below Epsom because there is a longer dwell time there.

Its a :-x world of PPM (public performance measure) TOCs very keen on it another tick in the box on next months poster, sadly public dont think measure counts for much when they are left standing on platform staring at tail lights disappearing of another missed connection.

So what about all those passengers on that train disappearing into the distance who want to get home on time, or might have connections of their own to make further down the line? It seems unfair when you've missed your connection, but chances are a lot more people get delayed by holding the train - with the added risk that delays cascade to other parts of the network, etc, etc.
