London Midland said:
Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at #Bletchley - all lines (Milton Keynes - London Euston & Marston Vale) are blocked

This seems depressingly familiar now.

Route affected:
London Midland to and from London Euston

Southern between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes Central

Virgin Trains to and from London Euston

Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central. As a result, all lines are currently blocked between these stations.

We anticipate disruption will continue until at least 19:00.

Check before you travel:
Please use the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner to check your journey before you travel.

I'm currently sat on the 16:40 Euston-Manchester currently sat at Leighton Buzzard. The conductor has kept us updated & advised we could be here a while.

Thoughts to those involved.

9M55 currently sat at signal 3230 on the up fast just after Milton Keynes did have a clear aspect which has now gone to danger so that may be the affected service :'(

Unfortunately, OTT is showing 9M55 as a XC service from Manchester to Bournemouth

Traksy has it as the 12:00 Glasgow Central - Euston. No idea if it's the affected train

9M55 has now set back into Milton Keynes. 1P21 is still on the down fast in the same area. The only other train is on the other side of Bletchley, not really near the station

I assume 1P21 is the 16:40 Euston - Manchester. We're held at signals, but this isn't the train involved in the incident.

Is it possible a train wasn't involved?

Was there not one just a few days ago? Not great by any means. We had a similar issue on the southern a couple of months ago where there were two at the exact same point on a cat B station. in a week (won't say where-other than it has a high linespeed-for obvious reasons). Not sure whether they've done anything about it (Though granted there's not exactly much that can be done).

To add to the woes, there's been another around Cogload Jn now. Certainly in for a long night all round...

9xxx on the WCML are Scotland via Birmingham trains.

9Mxx from Scotland to Euston
9Sxx to Scotland from Euston
9G/9Bxx Euston to/from Birmingham
I think 9K and 9P are also used for the Crewe and Preston terminators.

Unfortunately this is probably just the start of it.

We're now entering the time of year where we often start to see a spike in suicides on the UK rail network, this is down to the end of DST and with the nights drawing in for the next 6 weeks, you get people who suffer from Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), plus those who're already depressed about life & have mental health issues and then those who're dealing bereavements and so on and they just can't take the stresses & strains of it all and it's their only way to escape it all.

The south WCML has had fast-line fences/gates fitted...this has just meant the issue has moved elsewhere. We'll only get anywhere near solving the actual issue if we seriously look at how mental health services are done in the UK.

We were told that 'some lines' may be reopened in about 20 minutes at the last update. That was about 15 minutes ago.

I was delayed on Sunday attempting to leave Euston for Preston on the cancelled 1528 due to a fatality . Never mind what MPs may or may not have done ,or the Paradise Papers, these fatalities on the railways are far more important for the families , the drivers of the trains involved and the people using the railways. Yet nothing about it on BBC news or in national news media ??

I seem to remember someone saying last year that the run up to Christmas is always the worst for suicides on the railway.
Thoughts go out to all concerned.
Sam

I think it's the same everywhere not just on the railway, dark evenings and cold weather are probably contributory factors.

In a separate incident a body was found on the track at Knockholt this morning and the matter is being treated as suspicious, make of that what you will.
