12-Car Networkers

I read on the Kent Rail website about Network SouthEast lengthening platforms on the North Kent Line to enable 12-Car Networkers, but they were never actually cleared, does anyone know why this is?

Not sure if it ever happened in the end? I've not seen any notifications or alterations that state otherwise and as far as I am aware nothing is stated as such in any of the sectional appendix. If its not happend it may due to funding being withdrawn or it was found that not enough units may have been available to sustain such services at the time. It usually is somehting along this line.

At the time, BR had intended to enhance the power supply to cater for 12-car Networkers. Tenders were even issued for the necessary works & equipment (substations, cables, etc.) and as well as the platform extensions mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I believe some groundwork had been carried out and some supplies had already been delivered.

This all coincided with the economic downturn in 1992 and BR announced that the project had been cancelled, even though work had already started.

Yes, sorry, work was carried out to lengthen all platforms to accept 12 car formations. My mistake on that part:oops:! They according to the sectional appendix are only cleared to work in 8 or 10 car formations so I can only asume that as with electrostars they consume vast amounts of power through air con etc and this puts them up over the DC condutor rail index total allowance of 16. I think Electrostars were cleared for this although the TMS permits them to isolate traction motors to avoid heavy current drawing.
