...or just let LM send one of their many available and dust gathering 170's from Tyseley therefore it can run straight away with no problems!....

its good that ATW are willing to help out NXEA with a spare unit that they have, but surely couldnt ATW let NXEA have 2x 153 units as there always seems to be 2 coupled up together at Canton most days. and from a training point of view it would save NXEA a lot of time as well.

or ATW could:

send another 150 to Northern and ask if Northern would send 2x 153 units or a 156 to NXEA.

OR

send FGW the 150 and ask them if they would send 2x 153 units to NXEA.

You really think that wasn't asked? Arriva were the only TOC willing to do business. Worth bearing in mind the hire only runs to the end of NXEA franchise as it is not DfT funded.

Interesting that they're hiring a 150, I would've thought it would've made more sense to hire 280 out to Northern too, and then they send down a 156, or like someone else suggested, hire 280 to FGW and send a pair of 153's east.

Northern are currently losing PTE subsidies by not enough strengthening services, due to unit shortages. If a service is subsided by a PTE to be a 156+150 combination then Northern lose money if they don't provide at least something like 280 seats. Replacing a 156 with a 150 with 2+2 seating would mean the 280 seats on the 156+150 service become something like 240.

Even if Northern had a spare 156 then EMT would be telling them to cascade it on to them ASAP.

My take on this is that the 47 loco hauled diagram will continue, as NX are currently running a 153 on a Ipswich - Saxmundham diagram, which should be a 2 car unit, and a similar situation is going on, on the Sheringham line. Also, whenever unit fails, there isn't one to cover that diagram.

I read somewhere else on this site that NXEA are due to recieve 4 150/2s from ATW as they are surplus to requirements in the winter. Is this correct?

I certainly hope not. They could make use of at least 2 of those units by filling in the 2 hour gaps on the Cardiff - Swansea swanline & Cardiff -Cheltenham service.

I would imagine more will come clear when the new Anglia franchise is announced later this month.

Would be good to see 213/217/227/229/231/235/237/255/257 or even 245 back on the East Anglian branches. Not that sure which of those ATW has though.

I hope they dont go sending more of our class 150's away. ATW do sometimes struggle for stock especially at peak times as it is.

I know the wag want to improve rail services in wales including better links to Cardiff from west wales plus we could have the service from Ebbw Vale - Newport starting in a few years.

Edit...

Also on a slightly related note the first 156 (497) to EMT will be departing soon now that it's had its C6 at Newton Heath.

An easier idea would just be to hire the drivers back who signed the 150/2's such as 217/229/219/255/235 which got sent to arriva and then problem solved!
According to an inside source approx 4 150's are sitting in Canton pretty much "in store" because of the no need for them at the minute now the summer period has gone.... we shall wait with bated breath!
<D

219 is part of Fgw fleet!!

All of them are with Arriva. But I'm still confused as to why a 150 was hired, they are busy on the Valley Lines services working with Pacers and also they're on Ebbw Vale, Cheltenham, Maesteg, Shrewsbury-Crewe and Swansea stoppers.

Personally the lease of two 153's would have been a better option.

I think there is more to this than we know at the moment. Maybe more 150s to follow. NXEA drivers are all getting a couple of hours overtime to look around the unit at their leisure.

I'm pretty sure its still with NXEA and will remain there for a while, as NXEA has stared repainting their 153s. :)
It's on hire until the end of NXEA as NX have been paying for it. Not heard any suggestions so far Abellio will be keeping it on.

The unit is confined to Norwich, so if it is in service which it was everyday last week whilst i was in Norwich, it shouldnt be too hard to find. You can see all units out of Norwich that are in service on the Lowestoft, Sheringham and Gt Yarmouth services within 2 or 3 hours if that.

Looking back through my book from last week it operated the following diagram the most, i think there was only 2 days i didnt see it on this diagram.

06:50 Norwich - Yarmouth
07:35 Yarmouth - Norwich
08:36 Norwich - Yarmouth
09:17 Yarmouth - Norwich
10:06 Norwich - Lowestoft
11:00 Lowestoft - Norwich
11:45 Norwich - Sheringham
12:46 Sheringham - Norwich
14:36 Norwich - Yarmouth
15:17 Yarmouth - Norwich
16:40 Norwich - Yarmouth
17:17 Yarmouth - Norwich
18:06 Norwich - Yarmouth
18:47 Yarmouth - Norwich
19:33 Norwich - Yarmouth
20:17 Yarmouth - Norwich

Like i saw if you spend a couple of hours in Norwich as long as the unit is in service it wont be hard to find, also please dont take it as gospel 150280 will always work the above service, its just from my observations this diagram was the one it worked most often.

Quite possibly not as 156417 is back. However, the 153's and 156's are now going for their overhaul so maybe Abellio will keep hold of it to cover for units that are away?

Went 16.36 Norwich-Sheringham so should then have done 18.45 Yarmouth via Acle. Must now be on the way back.

I had it for a Yarmouth run earlier after Anglia-Gen reported it's diagram, 1445 off Norwich. For once I have seen it and had time to travel on it! :D
