I traveled on a 158 down in FGW land the other day and noted it's number as 158891. It was a three car set and it's number doesn't appear in my list of DMUs. Is it a reform set, if so which vehicles make it up?

Was it an actual FGW livery unit? 158891 should be an SWT 158 so wouldn't really add up to see it as 3 cars...the actual 3 car sets here are 158951 - 959.

Which service was it on and which date? I'm sure I could pop on a gen group for you and ask around, someone somewhere will know...

Cheers,

James.

158891 isn't one of SWT's numbers either, their 11 refurbed 158s are 158880-890.

Platform 5 don't list an 891...

FGW have created some obscure running numbers recently, I recall noting a 158 with some obscure 'made-up' fleet number a couple of weeks back, though I don't remember what the number was sadly. I'd imagine that there may well be an 891 floating about, and if there is it's probably some strange re-numbering job, tho for what reason I have no idea!

That's good news then :) Any thoughts on the mysterious 891 though?!

Cheers,

James.

It was the 4th of June 2011 on service 1F18.

All three cars where in FGW livery.

Though it is possible that I've noted the number down wrong. Or is one end got the wrong number on?

But thanks for the help so far everyone.

Hasn't quite happened just yet, though - had 158 766 from Cardiff to Taunton yesterday and it was still in original formation. 158 767 also around on Great Malvern services.

Are you sure it was not 158951? A PM allocated unit made up of 52751, 52764, and 57764.

I think it is 951, being as the numbers were all messy and peeling from where they had stuck other numbers over the top of the existing one. Iv got a pic of 763 with 953 placed very badly over the top. Will put it on later
