Was there daytime movement outside of the depots last weekend? I saw it leave the shed at Northfields but no sign of it after that.

There is a train 541/542 messing around on the north end of the Piccaddilly Line. Is this the new 24TS?

Any intel / times on what it will be doing 26/05 bank holiday would be appreciated.

No - ‘normal’ engineers trains. These work to the requirements of the possession, and/or in controllers’ timings on the line. There isn’t any advance notice possible of what they’re doing.

This weekend’s works are predominantly track and civils works in a variety of locations. There is no test train involvement.

Thanks. Was going to stand in the cross-passage at Finsbury in hope of seeing it from the Vic Line platform. Stand down!

Be interesting if it needs to traverse one of the old 9bit train discribers on the network if it’s using the “800” series of numbers

Still, won't a 9 bit number only allow up to 511?
LU (generally) use octal, so 777 is the highest possible number, excluding everything with 8s and 9s.

This has become less of a problem with recent control room and signalling upgrades - indeed some ATO lines use 8s and 9s routinely or as part of emergency number series - but it is still as a rule best avoided.

The 24TS is likely to run in the 7xx series initially - which is primarily used for stock moves and test trains - but this isn’t something to be guaranteed. Plenty of ‘ordinary stock’ 7xx series run every day.

As we’ve seen a lot in this thread this is another of those instances where a little bit of knowledge is at best misleading and at worst plain wrong.

Far too many sleepless nights on the 700 series trains…

Not sure if there’s any program machines left on the line or train describers that rely on them, but if there’s honestly anywhere that does, it’s likely to be the Piccadilly or north end of the SSL.

Northern line and Earls Court area was a mainstay of them for a while but have been recently “upgraded”.

Nothing left on the north end of the Met - the last was an EPM at Ricky which died almost a decade ago.

I think the Piccadilly ones have been eradicated under PICU, but I'm not 100% certain. The only other location that would spring to mind is Parsons Green.

EPM = Electronic Programme Machine
PICU = Piccadilly Interim Control Upgrade

Wow! A real world example of octal in use.

I thought it only existed to make JavaScript do annoying things, like parsing a user input of "010" as 8 after the initial zero in a box wasn't removed and there was no explicit "this is base 10" specified, causing a lot of confusion and frustration for younger developers trying to piece together JavaScript solutions to problems.

But I digress...

Neat to learn something new!

It has not been outside Northfields for testing yet.
One look at Northfields station reveals the new CCTV cameras only just being hung on the platforms, so it will be a while before they can be used at this and multiple other stations.
