The prototype units 150001 and 150002 are three car units and were off lease having been replaced at LM by 172s.

Good pic. Has anyone got a close-up (inside and out) pic of the middle unit? I've never seen one of these before! Thought 150s were only available as a back and a front!

Google class 150 and look for the traintesting website for general pictures, not especially close up though.

Where are the 5 180's coming from?

Three from Northern, two from store.

There's nothing special about the 3 car hybrids, Central and LM loved them by the looks of things (when they had them - discounting LM's 150105/7/9) and aren't new by any means.

Indeed, FGW still have a bunch of 158s running around in hybrid three car formations don't they?

Indeed, as I recall they only have 2 2-car 158s left now

Arriva Trains Wales could learn from that on Birmingham - Aberystwyth / Holyhead trains, especially if they cascade the soon to be surplus Mk2 LHCSs to other routes.

I don't know that much about those services, but isn't there a lot of portion working? Would the relevant stations be able to take 6 car formations?

Ollie B, thanks for the vid! Very interesting. I notice that the middle carriage has a guard-door yet you can still walk through the whole train top to bottom!
As I said earlier;
In that case, the centre car is just one half of a 150/2 sandwiched between a 150/1.
The only ones with proper centre cars are 150001 and 150002.

Yep sorry I did see that but couldn't 100% picture what you were describing (despite you giving the 150/1 and 150/2 links)
