TPE has been doing some interesting things as a result!

The 1348 Scarborough-Liverpool Lime St was held in platform 1 at Huddersfield for the 1350 Middlesbrough-Manchester Airport to catch-up. They then ran coupled together via Stalybridge and Manchester Victoria, passing through the latter non-stop, to Salford Crescent, where they reversed to Oxford Rd. Here they were divided again -the Scarborough-Liverpool, which was now on the rear, going off to Liverpool and the Middlesborough-Manchester Airport continuing to Piccadilly and the Airport.

At Piccadilly, the 1622 Liverpool-Scarborough was advertised as starting at Oxford Rd, but this was changed at the last minute, and it was announced it would now call additionally at Gorton, Fairfield and Guide Bridge.

The 3-car set left Piccadilly, absolutely wedged at about 1720, and after passing through Ardwick, was routed on to the line to the left of it's normal line [slow line? relief line?], and progress was very slow and bumpy. It passed the stricken 323, and then crossed on to the up line, and ran wrong road with pilotman to Guide Bridge, calling at Gorton, Fairfield and Guide Bridge in the meanwhile.

I was impressed by the efforts of TPE to keep the job moving, and wonder if this is the first time TPE has served Gorton, Fairfield and Guide Bridge even on the right road, let alone the wrong one?

Regarding Trans Pennine Express in this incident, would the onboard annoucemtns been manual or automatic on the services calling at Gorton, Fairfield & Guide Bridge and have the computers got these calling points programmed in.

They were manual, along with the advice that the doors would open on the "right-hand side facing direction of travel" at those stations.

Well, this answers my query as to whether TPE sign from Stalybridge to Manchester Victoria via Ashton-under-Lyne - I did wonder.

It does sound like they managed to keep the show moving this afternoon so hats off to them for that

323234 got tanged in the Ohl and brought it down. Class 57 sent out fromLongsight to rescue it and sent back via Denton.

As for Tpe, a few months ago they stopped a few services at Guide Bridge because a failed freight train at Hyde.

A 185 ran into the displaced OLE , the 323 approaching dropped his pan on seeing the shambes ahead but still ended up with the OLE wrapped round the 6 car. From the log , a very commendable effort to keep the job going and passengers home.

I presume the 323 unit is out of service temporarily then? If so, that might explain the Class 150 on the 0804 Picc - Crewe this morning!

Also, excellent work by TPE devising that solution!

By the time the Liverpool train did all that wouldn't it be just a few minutes ahead of the EMT service?

The Liverpool train was delayed by about 20 minutes at Huddersfield awaiting the following service to catch-up and couple. Then there was a slight delay at Salford Crescent stopping a 6-car train in just the right spot, and allowing the driver change ends, so we did not get into Oxford Rd until about 1650 - by which time the EMT service should have gone 10 minutes before!

All in all, though, I agree with those on here in that it was a good attempt to keep the trains moving, and not resorting to bustitution.

Yes indeed.
Pathing an extra 6-car train to reverse in Salford Crescent station at the start of the rush hour couldn't have been easy!

You could have always reversed it in the fast through road as a last resort, but it would mean the driver climbing out the unit. Much easyer on a 185 than a 156 coupled to a 150 though.

Yes - I was surprised we used a platform, but as you say it would have meant the driver going along the tracks, as we had 2 185s coupled-up.

Aye, although the train protects the driver from passing traffic if he walks on the NE side of the tracks at the crescent on the through roads, there are no other lines, just discarded heroin needles and shopping trolleys.
