Ive heard that 4 4-car 380's will be going up to the North Berwick Line in March. Arent ScotRail better sending 6 or 7 3 car 380's? this would provide more capacity where needed and longer trains during peak times? or would this leave ScotRail short on other routes?

We already have a mature thread on the 380s here where your question may have been answered already.

The main issue between Edinburgh and North Berwich are the platform lengths
A pair of Class 380 would not fit
There will be spare capacity once all the Class 380 units enter service, such that three units will be spare
During the next timetable these will be utilised to allow outstanding and programmed maintenance on the other fleets; Class 314, 318, and 320
Once that is completed it is likely the units will either be used for strengthening or a new service option; the latter is more likely
