I accept your point, however it does get confusing when we have 4472 called the flying scotsman, pulling carreges as a train in the flying scotsman :/

To add some additional pedantry to the mix, I shall point out that No.4472 is correctly referred to as Flying Scotsman, not The Flying Scotsman. The latter refers to the train that departs from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh every day at 10:00 and its southbound counterpart. :D

Ahh, A bit like how the coldstream guards are always 'The coldstream' but never the 'The coldstremers' or 'coldstreams

You Have to admit though, your average Joe would probably come out with somthing similar to my list, maybe with somthing big and american aswell..

I think those 3 LOCO's would be considered to be the most well known and therefore famous, as a TRAIN it seems it's the Orient Express! I've been playing a game with my non-enthusiast friends and even my wife (who answered Thomas the Tank Engine, I forgave her as she does work in a nursery!!!) and most of the persons asked named Rocket, Mallard or Flying Scotsman! I did have one name the American Big Boy and another the Bullet, but 9 times out of 10 it's those three! I imagine with all the publicity and current fame Tornado may weave her way into that trilogy tho!
