Due to an incident at the Alsager level crossing. The level crossing is out of use for the next 12 weeks. Audley road is closed to traffic and pedestrians and a diversion is in place.

Looks like they initially were operating the crossing manually, but that's not sustainable:

Emergency services were called and rail services disrupted when a pick-up truck crashed and overturned at the level crossing at Alsager.

The 24-year-old driver from Stoke managed to free himself from the wreckage and was assessed by paramedics at the scene following the collision, which was reported at 10.35pm on Monday.

One fire engine from Alsager and another from Crewe were involved in recovering the vehicle.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Crews used equipment to remove the pick-up truck away from the train line and make the vehicle safe. One casualty was assessed by paramedics.”

There's more on the cheshire-live page, but I'm not going to break their copyright

For some reason there are often problems with the Alsager level crossing. If there are delays between Stoke and Crewe, there's a pretty good chance that Alsager is causing them!

Delays to trains were about 5 minutes this morning and evening. 12 weeks seems a very long time to be closed though.

The truck has taken out the grey box and barrier, as seen in the attachment taken from Google Streetview. The photo linked at #1 is taken from the track looking north.

That's the barrier machine itself. The time does seem long, but if the concrete foundation itself is damaged, then it has to be dug out and a new one formed.and poured, all while still running trains. Also, the barrier itself is usually a "bespoke" item which has to be ordered specifically.

Spares of the boom shouldn't be a major issue unless its a particularly unusual length. There are usually a few kicking around as spares incase of damage. Even if there's not one local someone should have one somewhere in the country. Likewise the power pack/barrier machine.

With the timescale I suspect its probably the fixings, base, and surrounding fencing that's causing the issues.

The initial 12 week time frame was for a boom and pedestal to be made and delivered to site if one wasn't found locally/nationally. Think they found a pedestal somewhere but don't know the situation with the boom.

Barrier's been repaired, trains are being signalled normally. Road should be open by now as well.
