Any chance of doubling the singe-line section between Crewe and Alsager?

Kidsgrove - Crewe certainly is being put to good use on the 31st with Preston/Glasgow/Edinburgh services being routed that way.
I'm travelling north on the 31st and I see quite a lot of recovery time has been packed into the timetable with trains standing for about 10 minutes at Barthomley Crossover and almost 20 minutes at Crewe Station.

Any chance of doubling the singe-line section between Crewe and Alsager? Given it's usefulness during works like this, it must create problems of its own?

Off-topic, but this short segment of single line is as bad as having no wires up on the CLC between Liverpool South Parkway and Manchester Oxford Road.

I can think of other places where re-instating one more track alongside a working line would have greater benefits. Such as between Dore and Sheffield station. Or between Leicester station and Wigston North junction.

No chance of it happening. You can make the diversions work with what is there. Normal timetable doesnt need it either. Its way down the list of bottlenecks.

I think people tend to forget how short the single track section is.

Having been diverted via Alsager a few times I always get the impression that the layout, conflicting moves and platform arrangements at Crewe are a bigger bottleneck than the single line.
