Hi,

I use an annual season ticket to commute into London Euston from Northampton every day (my ticket says Northampton to London Stations, Any Permitted Route).

If I was to visit friends in Bedford after work, would the "Any Permitted" route allow me to travel out of St Pancras to Bedford?

The routeing maps (http://data.atoc.org/routeing-maps) show a route from London Euston -> Bletchley -> Bedford and also show routes out of St Pancras going via Bedford.

This is not permitted from what I can see.

The only permitted map between Northampton and London Group is map EN, and that only allows the direct WCML route.

Via Bedford is also more than 3 miles longer than the shortest route.

Thanks for you reply, so are the permitted routes only as defined within a single map? I didn't know you couldn't combine them.

Permitted map(s) (combinations) are defined by the pink pages (Section B) and yellow pages (Section C). You cannot jump straight to the maps before consulting these two sections.

According to the pink pages, Northampton is a Routeing Point. London Euston / St Pancras are both members of London Group Routeing Point.

Looking up the yellow pages gives Northampton to London Group permitted on map EN only.

You then look up map EN to trace a permitted route between Northampton and London Group, which is directly down WCML only. You cannot go via Bedford because that does not give you a route between Northampton and London without doubling back, which is not allowed.

Your London to Northampton season ticket does permit you to travel out of St Pancras, as far as West Hampstead Thameslink. This is most likely permitted as it's no more than 3 miles longer than the shortest route. You can buy a ticket from there to Bedford, should save you a little bit.

As far as West Hampstead Thameslink and then....?
Edit: Walk to South Hampstead and continue north, maybe?

So far as I can see it, a route would only be Permitted if you can actually complete it at some point?

Surprised, though, that no "Also Available At" season exists for Northampton - there is one for MKC and Bedford. So if the OP wants to do this a lot and doesn't use the very small number of direct Northampton-Euston trains that have no MKC stop, splitting season tickets at MKC may be worthy of consideration.

St Pancras - West Hampstead Thameslink - West Hampstead - Willesden Junction - Harrow and Wealdstone and as appropriate changing onto LM to head north?

Sounds the most obvious to me but unsure...

Yes, that's the one.

Via Kenny O? Something is behaving in a silly way I reckon. If the purpose is to make a connection with the Southern then why not Shepherd's Bush?

I specified via Brondesbury and avoiding Euston, to produce itineraries from St Pancras - West Hampstead Thameslink - West Hampstead - Willesden Junction and on to Northampton.

I see that, but look at the itinerary it gave for the 1756 from St Pancras. ;)

Slightly OT, but another weird outcome... apparently the walk is delayed? Roadworks on the pavement? ;)
(Apparently the roadworks result in the connection being made in less than a minute though!)
