Are £1/£3 Megatrain tickets available between Edinburgh and Birmingham?

Lately I haven't seen any £1 or £3 Megatrain tickets available on the 18:52 Edinburgh to Birmingham service. The cheapest I've seen is £5. The tickets for Thursday August 4th were released just today and the only tickets available are £5 ones. The same applies for the 06:19 Birmingham to Edinburgh service, the cheapest available being £5.

Does anyone know if the £1 and £3 Megatrain tickets have been withdraw on the Birmingham to Edinburgh route?

Errr, Smethwick!
I think they have crept up a little in price, yes.

I got from Birmingham to Edinburgh and back for £2.50 (£1 each way plus booking fee) just after they first launched, but must have been very lucky. Since then, making two or three trips a year, have usually paid £3 or £5 each way.

Am booked again in a couple of weeks time (though between B'ham and Carlisle only) for a total £8.50 return, so seems to be the norm at the moment. (Actually going to Glasgow to see the reopened Riverside Museum but that's another, irrelevant story...) Wouldn't surprise me if all started at £5 each way later in the year.

Still a great bargain, though, don't you think, particularly against the sort of prices you'd normally expect to pay leaving Birmingham New Street at 0619 on a weekday?

It's undeniably cheap, but I'm just wondering if the £1 and £3 fares are being booked so fast you don't notice them, or if they have actually been withdrawn. If anyone who works for Virgin knows what the quotas are that would be very helpful.

Sometimes the lower band fares are released in the last few hours before bookings close, typically where the loadings are very poor
I wouldn't expect this during June to September
