But since 2001, it's the *leading* 2 characters which define where the vehicle was registered and the last 3 characters are random https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/how-does-the-uk-number-plate-system-work/

So it's not an "FY" registration.

It is. May depend who handled the registration - e.g. if it were Wrights being Northern Ireland based they may be allocated to Aberdeen if they request mainland registrations.
I think @TheSel was merely pointing out that it's nice to see a once-familiar letter combination which is purely coincidental.

With regard to the SV geographic code, it could just be that there was spare capacity in that range, especially as buses that would previously have carried Aberdeen plates are now often issued with Yx registrations (presumably relating to Scarborough). Anyhow, this is off-topic.

Was there any comment about Arriva withdrawing the 748 and 758 Greenline routes?

Just the 757 and 724 left operated by them.

It was featured on page 13 of Coach and Bus Week (9 Nov edition).

Passenger numbers were dwindling pre Covid so it was always going to be on borrowed time.

As an aside that link needs you to register to view.

It's not a total surprise - commuting by coach numbers have dwindled over time. I think Hemel only held on as long as it did because the station is not conveniently sited for most of the town.

The 724 and 757 will probably survive owing to their airport links and, in the case of the 724, the fact it provides an East - West link across Herts and it's the only surviving one of those.

757 will also depend on the Luton Airport bid status and whether or not Arriva continue to be successful in bidding for the slots.
There is (or was) a strong Luton Town - London leisure market despite the frequent train services so hopefully it will remain strong going forward, it always used to be that Sunday had the most journeys of the week (pre Covid).

Not (yet) reported here is that Arriva will stop operating the Maidstone Park & Ride service from February. They have been running it commercially for the past year, after Maidstone Borough Council could no longer support it.

A Park and Ride service is to permanently end in Maidstone next year.

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has expressed sadness the service, run by Arriva, will run for the final time on Saturday, February 19.

Park and Ride bus services, provided by Arriva, are to stop in Maidstone next year. Picture: Gary Browne
MBC has supported the Park and Ride for many years and, since Arriva took over in May 2019, it has provided sites for parking in Willington Street and London Road.

Arriva said it was 'with regret' it was taking the decision, but said tumbling passenger numbers, both for commuting and days out, meant the service was no longer financially viable.

It said it tried to explore several options with Maidstone council, but a solution could not be found.

Its use had already been in decline and two other Park and Ride routes had already been scrapped – the 506 from Sittingbourne Road ended in 2016, while another from Coombe Quarry stopped running in 2007.

Well, today's the final day of Arriva Guildford, I'm guessing there will be a big move to Peasmarsh depot today.
It is very strange for the final day to be a Friday rather than a Saturday. Still, Surrey CC have been very quick to change the timetables. I wonder where the Arriva fleet will head off to...

Bit off topic but wonder where the Arriva fleet will head off to...
Word on the street is that the 12-plate Citaros are destined for High Wycombe, to see off some of the older stock there, but I’m unable to back that up with definitive source.

It is known that all of the fleet is spoken for within "Arriva Southern Counties" (ASC) - the exceptions being the 389x Citaros, which have been sold. A fairly large contingent is expected to go to Southend and Colchester, as they have some of the oldest single-deckers left in service in 'our bit' of ASC.

Having been in Colchester the other week, I was thinking that they may be beneficiaries for e200s.

To add more details for Arriva the shires, 14 MCV Evora are for the busway, five are 12.1m long while the other nine are 10.8m long.

Also Zebra funding has been secured via Milton kynes Council for 56 battery-electric buses, Its currently unknown if the entire order is single, double or mixed of both.

3907 and 3909 at least have been in service from High Wycombe today, renumbered as 3021 and 3023. 3021 is tracking as 3700 which has presumably got the chop, 3023 didn’t appear to be tracking at all. Presumably more to come.

No link, I'm afraid. Comes in a weekly .pdf file.
It's also available online to members of the "LondonsTransport" Google group. Largely London orientated, as might be suggested, but with other area news.

Arriva Buses Wales App is stating that there are no bus services operating today (Mon 3 Jan) , however, there is a Sunday service operating!

What is the point in the latest technology if there are no humans available to update it!

For those who know it, I have it on good authority that Arriva's Jesmond depot in Newcastle has been sold, I think they were asking 22 million for it, or I might have imagined that.

It's a big lump of prime land in a good area, but grade 2 listed.

I have been told deckers are going to Blyth which will be expanded and a new mini bus depot is to be built at Walkergate. Drivers jumping ship as they don't want to move.

This is from someone who works for Nexus.

I am sure the money from the sale will be used to improve the god awful state of our local fleet.

The new depot is right next door to Stagecoach’s Walkergate depot. I imagine Blyth will move there too as that depot is also expected to close as redevelopment of the town centre continues.

The opening of a new depot at Walkergate whilst moving deckers to Blyth did seem a strange one to me, but apparently Arriva own some land attached to the depot to expand on.

Until recently I lived in Blyth and was unaware of any plans for the centre.

To be fair, the future of Jesmond depot and cashing in on that site has been a subject for discussion for the last 30 years. I'd suggest that Walkergate will be an almost straight replacement for Jesmond. To be fair to Arriva, it's a lucrative asset that is now quite under-utilised so it does make sense and attracts some very chunky business rates; mind you, that's also because Arriva have managed to shrink the operation over the years so it's only about 60-65 vehicles.

Wouldn't be surprised if Arriva banged a few more into Ashington depot; again, it was suggested that the plan always was for that depot to replace Ashington and enable Blyth to be closed at some point. Don't know how true that was.

Sad to say that if/when Blyth and Jesmond go, there will be only one former United depot still in use.
