Currently reading the excellent book titled the 'Regional Railways Story' which was published a few years past and it states in 1993 the entire age of the full large Regional Railways fleet was a mere 8 years of age. This made me think is there anything out there that gives an overview of the current age of the fleets today? In the case of franchises such as Northern it must be over 30 years?

ORR publish this info on their website. I apologise I don't have time to hunt it down right now myself but it is on there.

Pacers have gone? Huge new fleet of 195s and 331s? Bet it's under by a decent margin.

That's quite surprising actually, as by 1993 the 141/142 fleets were probably at the 8 year mark on average.

Okay so the sprinters and later Pacers were under 8 years. But there were still a fair number of heritage units both diesel and electric around during 1993.
