Bi-mode Inter Regional trains

Are there any plans to purchase any bi-mode inter-regional trains say to replace 156/158s that work partly under the wires?

None as far as I'm aware. Only orders are to cover Intercity routes on Great Western & East Coast.

I think the 158s can carry on a while yet, and tri-mode 159 replacements (dual voltage electric + diesel) seem unlikely.

There are no plans at the moment, but they could conceivably form part of the winning bids for the next Northern and TransPennine franchises - we'll have to wait and see.
