I know it's probably a usual question but where did the brake van currently in Westwood Sidings just north of the DBS loco shed in Peterborough appear from and where is it going as normally nothing of the kind ever comes though Peterborough on the mainline either in traffic or stabled.

Just noticed it from the bus as we passed over Westwood bridge about 3pm.

Edit: Not sure on the type of brake van but it look like it had a short wheelbase ie just two bogies and a great big wheel on the veranda which is very similar to the ones on ships, I don't know if that would be the handbrake but it's a bloody great big thing.

If it has a ships wheel on the verandah, it may be a Shark Brake Van.
Thes BV's were pigs to ride in, you had to have sea sick tablets the ride was that rough.
At 35mph the whole body seemed to be loose on its fixings.
Best place for these BV's was waiting to get cut up.

If it was a "Shark" van then it's probably come over from the virtual ballast quarry at March, as they are generally used in ballast formations with "Seacow" ballast hoppers, of which there are a dwindling number. If it's on it's won then it may have been dumped with some sort of defect.

They always do look extremely rickety when they're in motion.
